I can't think of a franchise that relies on ratings less than Marvel movies. That one percent is going to change nothing. Everyone already knows if they are going to go see it or not

Ehhhh I don't think that's true for all of them, no.
Everyone is going to see an Avengers movie, yeah, but not everyone is going to see Ant Man and the Wasp.

Some of these characters and franchises have ZERO general audience brand pull at this time, and if the first movie doesn't land at all then they're not going to. And unlike, say, Black Panther, they didn't already establish ANY of the characters in this movie in a previous entry to build excitement.

Haven't spent a decade in the food service industry I can confirm that this is almost certainly true, and likely *more* true to an alarming degree.

Im going to disagree pretty hard on the reviews dont matter idea. Marvel Studios has been a mark of quality since it started, lets not forget how bad most superhero movies were before Iron Man. Even the good series each had two good films then went down hill quite fast, Superman, Burton/Schumacher Batman, X-Men, Spider-Man, Blade It was fairly slim pickings and when a good franchise popped up they never stayed good. The wonderful thing about the MCU was how consistent in quality it was. It really elevated the superhero style as a whole to a new level. It doesnt become the biggest film franchise ever without being good first. You can look at the trajectories of series like Transformers or The Amazing Spider-Man to see that, started big and then people got tired.

Like, Rises has a higher tomato score and a MUCH higher average critic score than Begins.

I don't actually think it's that much better but it's literally the opposite of a hot take. It's the more common opinion even.

It is not that hot a take.

Critically acclaimed, hugely successful movie that did well in all audience metrics is good. There has never been as vocal a minority as the TDKR sucks crowd haha. People really like to let you know they hated it.

Reboot X-Men is a funny one since if you stick to the main films its true but you also had The Wolverine, Deadpool, Logan, Deadpool 2 It was a good franchise killed by the Disney purchase.

Now if we count the Wolverine trilogy as its own film, that sucked then had two good films!

I don't really think any of my superhero movie takes are that hot honestly. I think Ant Man is pretty bad but nobody LOVES that movie. Is Doom Patrol being the best superhero show one?

You'd be surprised! A lot of people (including myself) have a soft spot for it. Despite Iron Man and Dark Knight being much better movies that year, Hulk was still a big step up from a lot of the crap from previous years.

Anything above 60 is considered fresh and anything below 60 rotten right? So it is possible for something to have like 15 out of 15 60 scores and be 100% fresh right? Also if something has like 9 fresh scores and 1 rotten out of 10 scores it goes to 90% fresh right?

IMDB and Metacritic don't have this right? I mean they just add all the scores from everyone and divide them by their number right?

Number review have become meaningless in an age of 75 being bad and 85 being mediocre.

A general feel of how many people think the movie is any degree of good at all means a lot more to me.

And by a lot more I mean....like I am a tiny little bin interested, as opposed to and aggregate average score which I consider less than worthless and actively harmful.

Yeah, I'd much rather look at a general consensus of "Do people generally enjoy this movie or not" over numbers that don't mean anything to anybody beyond the ones that assigned them.

To be fair movies dont usually have the same issue with scores games have as they work on a five point scale and the whole range of values gets used. So Metacritic is actually better for movies than for games. If a movie gets a 50, thats alright. If a game gets a 50, thats dreadful. If a movie gets a 90, thats an all-timer, if a game gets a 90 thats maybe one of the better games that year. It just feels more accurate to reception overall.

RT is probably the best though as Metacritic selects relatively few reviews and IMDB is full of sampling bias and brigading. With RT, you get the percentage of how many critics watched the movie while also being able to check the average score. I also really appreciate that they actually require you to verify that youve watched the movie for audience reviews but wish it was open worldwide.
