Then again, he did just release a controversial special that continues to focus on the gloomy cloud of his return: harping on the LGBTQ community. It's unforunate he's spent as much time on the topic as he has. A) People considering it some of the best television of the decade B) People thinking he's completely lost it and isn't funny at all anymore C) By far the largest majority; people who do not give a shit Chappelle's prime was a much longer time ago than people here are willing to admit. For most of the modern youth generation he has no relevance whatsoever, and there's really no reason to expect them to know who he is either. Dude's complicated, but that doesn't excuse when he's wrong -- and he is wrong on this for the ways he keeps getting facts wrong with insults and then keeps focusing on their reactions with retorts of misunderstandings. He's fanned flames and denied his part in it. I'll note that The Closer tried to give some of his most personal experiences with the community instead of just talking about LGBTQ people as a broader distant topic like airplane food. That was important in theory, but even then his performance was still so often problematic...and that was most of his special. Steiner posted... i only know him as the transphobia guy, my head span when i came into this topic and it was like "which of these things is the best" lol As someone who followed his career for like twenty years and was one of many people in my generation I knew who loved Chappelle's past work, a thing I've got to learn is that the perception of him with many people has largely and recently changed in a way where it's not just "I still like him but don't like those jokes" but rather "I don't like him (anymore) because of those jokes" or "I only know these jokes I don't like by him." It sucks to see it happen as far as personal celebrity impacts VS individual celebrities changing.
