This is the kind of thing I'm talking about when I talk about the problems in academia.

This is insultingly racist.

Black people are just as capable as anybody else, and an institution that INISISTS otherwise is racist AF.

There are several users here that defend this kind of shit and act like there are no problems like this in academia.

I hope this story wakes them up.

The email requesting an easier test for black students came from a white student. The response email from the professor wasn't the greatest look, but it's certainly not anything worth removing him from his post for. It was the university trying to protect its image and in doing so, it broke the law and financially harmed him by costing him some of his other jobs.

It's an issue with the student body itself considering this case was started by a non-black student requesting leniency for black students and then rallying the student body against the teacher when he refused.

College aged white liberals are the worst.

Funny how this (old) story gets so many posts (and rightfully, even though his response was a lil dickish it was a fucked up situation), but my topics about faculty members being pushed out of positions by Republican donors including Henry Goddamn Kissinger only get a few. I mean it technically is discrimination.

It is discrimination of perceived competency based on race.

Imagine being one of these students who took every test normally but graduated with students who didn't, if a potential employer saw you were black, and saw what university you went to, they'd have just reason to infer your degree meant less than the same degree from your white classmates, because the university robbed you of the chance to be judged fairly as a human just like everybody else.

Lefties who treat some races like helpless children are being racist. People are people. Humans are humans. Treat them fair. Fight times of unfairness. And don't pretend any race of people is nothing but a helpless puppy you have to patronize.

That's fucked up and racist af.

Imagining being in those people's shoes, I'd hate that so damn much.

That's a lot of words to say "you're wrong" without articulating a single way in which I'm wrong.

Ding ding ding. CE gets a hardon anytime they can talk about perceived "woke" attacks on academic freedom, but barely blinks an eye at the consistent, sustained attack on it currently coming from the right.

Yeah but speaking to several people who worked in Oregon public school systems, and who had more recent experience there than me, those proficiency requirements were just driving really shitty teaching practices that emphasized preparing for standardized tests rather than actually ... like teaching kids.

Well now I will say it. You're wrong. It doesn't amount to that at all. Your interpretation of my post is wrong.

It amounts to "he didn't say 'we shouldn't be racist' is anti-academia. He said that anti-academia people repeatedly blow the few stories like this out of proportion to make their point about academia being the downfall of America."

Because that's what anti-academia has been doing. There aren't *countless" stories of this happening. There are a few. And almost everyone save for the annoying shits that cause these sort of incidents(like the complaining white student) agrees that this is stupid and regressive. Like removing the "racist" rock. It's performative garbage. But it isn't like hundreds of instances.

So if you want the "you are wrong" it is here. You are wrong in your understanding of the sentence. Anti-academia blows these things out of proportion and acts like there are hundreds of these incidents happening every year when it's usually one or two a year that they bring up forever. And they use this to attack all higher learning.

Unless the test is asking essay questions about "Friends" or "Leave it to Beaver", I don't think it's an issue of the tests being screwed against minorities, I think it's an issue of the education system being skewed against the poor, of which minorities are a sadly large amount.

We fix the education system and make sure the education system treats everybody fairly, no race will under perform another.
