Do you think the grand jury made the right decision not to charge him?

A Grand Jury has decided NOT to bring murder charges against 15 y/o Tucker Gales from Georgia after Tucker admitted he blew his father's brains out with a .22 rifle because he had "enough" of watching him beat his mother when he punched her and then kicked her in the head.

His father was arrested before for domestic abuse multiple times and when cops arrived, tucker admitted he'd shot his father and told him he had enough of seeing his mother be abused and he killed him to stop him FOREVER...

The teen was arrested for murder and taken to jail but was granted bond and allowed to return home while prosecutors weighed whether or not to charge him

It was turned over to a grand jury and the jury decided on Wednesday not to bring charges against him

DA Bobby Christine said the decision represented the combined wisdom of their community as friends and family launched a gofundme for the teen with a potential legal fund which has raised 10K of its 75,000 goal

Sarah Hensley, the mother of one of Tucker's friends said "For a 15 y/o boy that situation seems hopeless and he felt that he he had to take matters into his own hands and our hearts are breaking for him. I think our community needs to rally around him and show much he's loved and not be ashamed"

Do you think the grand jury made the right decision?

Seems fair. Killing him wasn't necessarily the right way to solve the problem, but I'm also not about to shed any tears for a serial wife beater, and there's plenty of room to say that he was justified.

If its to save your life/a loved one's life then I have no complaints. I don't pretend to know all the details, but its sad that it went on so long.

A conviction of some sort could have just been a good excuse for rehabilitation. Just releasing him back into the world after that trauma is not a good idea.

i don't think a .22 has enough force behind it to blow anyones brains around

maybe turn it into mush as the bullet bounces around inside the skull, but it's unlikely to go in and then out

He killed the source of the trauma, he's fine.

That isn't how our legal system works. This isn't Europe. I'd have made the same decision if I was in that grand jury.

I have mixed feelings about this simply because:

With a history like that, I'm not surprised things ended this way.

I support vigilantism in theory but it's too easily abused in the reality, so when I see a case like this I can't help but support the kid.

He should probably seek some therapy though, that's got to be a huge weight on him even if he doesn't realize it yet.

If the dad was kicking the mother in the head, it certainly seems like the kind of event that requires immediate intervention.

Maybe if he would have been put in another country's prison. This ain't Sweden.

There was a similar case in my city a few years ago (although I can tell from the pictures it was a different kid), and it had the same result. And as much as the media tried to make the kid sound like a cold blooded killer, the truth of the matter is he did it to save his mother's life. So yea, fair.

Although I would think the kid should have some form of mandatory psych evaluation just to make sure it didn't irrevocably mess him up.

I don't think he should have gone to prison, but at least some kind of youth development program. Like people said this could mess him up even if his father was a piece of shit that got what was coming. You can tell that guy (dad) was bad news just from looking at him.

Nobody looks like good news in a mugshot, though... except for that one guy Ducky posted where his photo went viral for looking good in a mugshot.

The fact that you don't realize that normal people suffer psychological damage from killing anyone - no matter how justified - is kind of alarming.

Yes, that s basically what my response to him was going to be. I was including the killing when I said trauma.

I figured. It's also very much worth noting that killing the source of the trauma does not in any way mean the trauma is gone. People suffer the aftermath of being abused by people long after they escape their abuser, however that happens.
