The problem is the less you care about your looks, the more women will flock to you. If all you do when you wake up is splash some water on your face, they consider that "ruggid", but spend 30 minutes grooming and making your self look nice, and they will stay away from you.

So in a way, self-consciousness about one's appearance can be considered unattractive in of itself.
