Got tipped off to something called Black Rock Shooter. I know of it due to the Hatsune Miku tie-in, but never saw the show itself. But, given the rigamarole of giving her the Winter Maiden powers, THEN the bullshit of giving her a human body, just to kill her off and give Winter the powers anyway...that is some roundabout storytelling. She makes actual friends after being a secret weapon, just to be killed in the tournament (fuck Cinder, Mercury, and Emerald, btw). Then, she's brought back in Volume 7, just to get hacked. Then, they give her a human body to bypass the virus (which was clever but made no sense), just to kill her for good. It's a bit of a weak adaptation in general (unsurprisingly, since the main thing that carries the books is the great narration...).
