- If it's a match between your favorite song ever and a song you despise, still LISTEN TO BOTH! Votes can and will be disqualified if there is suspicion songs are not being listened to, and you may be discounted for the rest of the contest for repeat offenses.

match 1 is incredibly difficult and i actually have to think about "which track do i like more" carefully, rather than just "which track do i wanna see win. there's like, so much umineko (and zts's big epic trance songs in this style specifically) already retired, it's familiar, maybe too familiar to be excited to see advance ever again. and speartip is watson who is NEW and COOL and i'm excited to see repped in the contest because i love his stuff consistently and speartip is a standout!!. but do i actually prefer it to resreplayer of all songs? i...don't know?! it's too hard!!!!!! aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh how do i vote in this match fairly without the bias of ]exciting new development[ skewing my perception?

(the answer is yes i do genuinely prefer speartip, but barely. the polymeter in rr and its brilliant floaty chord changes at some key moments move me in really cool ways, the sound design is cool as it always with in zts stuff for me. but in the end speartip is a more faithful merge of elements i seek to find together. this contest has tested my worldenddominator alliance though, i'll say that. every time i re-listen to resurrectedreplayer i think it comes closer to worldenddominator in my umineko rankings and now i think it might beat it?!

anyway resurrectedreplayer appeals to me in a way more akin to my mid-2010s or so taste which was heavily about "how complex is the song".

speartip appeals to my current tastes which are more about "what environment does this song take me to? what emotions does this song evoke to me?", and although i still speak in technical theory terms or lean on pointing out production details when i talk about stuff because thats just how i talk.....i'm definitely more focused on like "emotionally moving chord change-melody interactions" than i am "wHOA COOL MATH" even if i like cool math puzzles in music too. but like i like the polymeter in resurrected replayer these days for different reasons than i would've in the past. i like it not because it's 'complex' but because it's "trippy", but...speartip is even more trippy in different ways? those ways are just more strange sound design choices/etc rather than elements of the composition. speartip is less """cerebral""" and analyzable because of that but just as cool, maybe even more cool because of that?!

anyways this match i know my preference on, but it is close and i COULD flip upon a relisten. i'm pretty sure i would have gone for resurrected replayer in the majority of years i participated in vgmc, but recent changes in how i perceive music make speartip more favorable to me these days)

i hate match 1. not quite my overall favourites of murasaki or zts umineko offerings but still roughly mid-9s anyway. i'm not even sure i actually prefer speartip so much as just "i want it to win this specific match right now" more and i would be very happy for rr if it could also leave its mark despite all the change coming to vgmcs over the last few years

Whoops. I mentioned VIMP in yesterday's topic without saying it's #2 all-time favorite vgm in my phase 1 rankings, hehe. And I also mentioned Suite Photoconductivity ~Third Tune~ Bolt and Sword yesterday, too... it is my #17!

FIrst match I like both a lot. resurrectedreplayer is like worldenddominator or lastendconductor, but the key difference is that those have long stretches that are both "trancy" and "musically uninteresting" which, in combination, kind of kill my overall experience of those tracks, but rr doesn't have that problem.

Great second match, too, even better than the first match! Bahram's opening is just fantastic and if it was only that, I would have voted it over Danger. With Danger, there are some moments like 1:48 - 2:04 that just make me so happy every time... that section in particular is really, really cool rhythmically.

The tiebreaker is also really good. Probably every one of these is at least an 8/10... well, PH and Speartip might be high 7's, but close enough.

Bahram Attack is a weird name for the song named Bahram Attack! Maybe the aliens are attacking us with dangerously hypnotic beats?! I admit this is a nice chill beat to admire the multicoloured skyline of Sydney to, but it usually just makes me miss Foregone Destruction...incidentally, the four non-tiebreaker songs are in descending order of strength today, though the gaps certainly aren't large!

Both songs in match 1 are pretty great, maybe I ought to be abstaining there as well, but I do feel like I'd specifically put Speartip over ressurected, even if very slightly, which is something I can't say about the tiebreaker (dunno which I'd prefer there, too close to say)

I am so grateful for this tie. I felt not great about voting Chrono Trigger last time - I genuinely preferred it at the time, but I also love Pioneer's Horizon and questioned my vote all day. Today, however, I prefer Pioneer's Horizon, so I'm swapping my vote. Yay ties!
