This is part two of my anti-natalism topic. Seeing as no one on this board was able to come up with a legitimate counter in the time it has been up I figured it was time to move on to this since I've proven that bringing new people into existence is immoral. So this topic has nothing to do with those who might exist but those who do exist, you and I.

"But why do I need to justify my existence?" you might be asking, well honestly you don't need to, but it is a matter of morality I'm looking at once again. To justify something means to defend it by proving that it is reasonable or morally correct. Morality dictates that he who causes unjustified harm to another is wrong to do so and those who cause harm regularly or in great amounts are cruel and immoral. There is some leeway with that rule however in that sometimes causing suffering for a greater good can be accepted, the greater good being the justification. I don't think many would disagree with that.

What most people refuse to admit however is that simply by existing they cause untold amounts of harm and suffering to living things. It is a universal sin, an orginal sin, no human is exempt no matter how righteous they might try to act. All life forms stand a top a pile of corpses, and the apex predators stand on piles of corpses made from piles of corpses. Humanity is by far the most deadly apex predator to ever exist. I'm not just talking about things like meat consumption either, our society rises only by propping it up on more death and suffering, human death and suffering more so than other animals.

Every single facet of your life is infused with the unheard or unheeded cries of suffering. Unless a reason can be provided that proves the suffering caused to others is reasonable despite its perpetuity and strength there is only one conclusion to come to.

So I ask those of you who have accepted my challenge, what is your proof of validity, your reasoning, your end goal that will justify the pain you cause?

Also before someone tries to twist this, I'm not saying something that can't be justified shouldn't necessarily not exist if it doesn't already. Alright?

I'm handicapped and am probably forever gunna be so... I'll likely never contribute that much more to society. I am happy with my life, but if the guv needed to euthanize me because they can't bear the financial burden any more... I wouldn't be able to come up with a reasonable objection.

I do justify my existance and have had to my whole life?

Why?

Because since I was a kid I didn't really want to exist, so in order to do so, I needed to do something that made it seem worthwhile to me.

Therefore, I can justify my existence by reducing suffering in the world and making life better for as many people as I can. I figure that I'll die eventually anyway, and I feel that the time between then and now will seem to pass instantly (such that I will be at the end of my life and looking back eventually and it will seem like almost no time has passed), therefore, I should keep living and help prevent other people from suffering and help them enjoy life as much as I can.

It's not that hard to keep existing, and the good you can do far outweighs the effort required (in my opinion at least) so as long as I can continue to do good things and make this world better, I should continue to exist.

That is at least how I look at it.

As much as anyone can justify anything's existence. In truth, there's no particular reason for anything to exist. I'm not about to suggest that I deserve any special consideration beyond that.

If you don't want to follow your nihilism to its actual conclusion, though, and want a more personal justification, nature abhors a vacuum. If I did not exist, somebody else would fill my place, and there's a good chance they'd cause more suffering than me. They might also do better, but I'd like to think I'm above average in the "not a dick" department, and averages are all you can really cite for a comparison like this.

More broadly, if humanity didn't exist, something else would have taken their place. The niche of "intelligent apex species" would eventually be filled, and there's a fair chance it would not be with a species that gives any weight at all to the morality of their consumption. Heck, even without leaving the species, look at the number of cultures throughout history that did strive for sustainable, ethical consumption, but were ultimately conquered by cultures that had no such reservations. Nature is not forward-thinking. Those that plan for long-term survival are often destroyed by those that consume more rapidly to become more powerful on a short-term basis. Humanity's (limited) ability to delay gratification and make long-term decisions that promote survival is really what has allowed them to become so dominant for so long.

No, you didn't. All you did was overly explain your opinion.

My existence is justified by my love of existing, my newborn son, my loving wife and the joy I provide the world.

I came into this world. I decided to dig my feet in and make my mark for the world to recognize after I'm gone. Ergo, I exist, and that alone is just.
