Im on the fence about a booster. My second Moderna vaccine kicked my ass and Ive read that is a decent indicator of how effective the vaccine was.

Boosters/yearly vaccines were very much on the table. I can understand why the general public might find this surprising because it was kept quiet, but as someone that's supposedly in the medical profession it was quite obvious.

Unfortunately her birthday isn't until late June. From what I've been told, 4 year olds will hopefully be eligible by next January or so.

It is an indicator of how strong your bodies immune response but not an indicator of how long those antibodies are going to stick around.

Stop being a chicken and get your damn booster when eligible.

I was hearing about boosters being a potential need before the original immunizations started. It was brought up as a distinct possibility in our monthly hospital updates on the vaccine from the start.

Sadly I dont think I will be getting my booster after all. Administrative staff arent really healthcare workers even if I do work in the hospital.

The seasonal flu shot is roughly 40% effective. And costs me nothing to get. And I, like most people, thankfully don't have an adverse reaction. So yeah, I think I'll continue getting something that is still useful, if not as useful as we'd all like.

The COVID shots (boosters included) are more effective against a "deadlier" disease. And cost me nothing to get. Minimal reaction to the 2nd shot. So yeah, I think I'll continue getting something that is still useful, if not as useful as we'd all like.

And I'd rather get boosters every 6-12 months than have to go back to wearing a face mask everywhere. That's my line. I'll wear the mask if it's mandated (which thankfully isn't too many places now) but other than that, no.

None of the legal threats have any water. The vaccine mandate will happen, though probably not til after the holidays.

I feel like people start getting sick at around this time of year anyways due to seasonal changes. Obviously that just makes Covid even more dangerous, but it was true before also.

Mostly just saying since I've heard a number of people coughing in college lately.

Without any level of immunity (and with treatment if necessary) I believe the average fatality rate is somewhere around half a percent. It also depends heavily on age and preexisting conditions though.

Some states such as CA, CO, NM (also NYC) are now allowing boosters for any adult 6+ months out from their second dose (2+ months for J&J). With cases starting to climb again and more data coming out showing substantial increases in vaccine effectiveness after a booster Id highly recommend that everyone get one.

Every time he catches covid in his 60s hes rolling a near 5% chance of death that scales to about 10% in his 70s.

Keep in mind that rolling not death doesn't mean being okay, as covid, especially a severe case as older people are probe to get, can leave debilitating after effects. Also so called natural immunity wanes faster than vaccination as well, so he could potentially be rolling these chances of death multiple times a year.

So, eventually probably not okay.

Hes nearly 70 and still goes out plenty. I have no idea how he hasnt gotten it already. I wish hed just get vaccinated but hes a huge Trump conspiracy theorist.

Just remind him that he can prepay for all his funeral costs and other end of life expenses.

Yep I was gonna wait and see if they'd approve it but definitely wanted to be boosted before visiting my parents for the holidays. I eventually got impatient because I didn't see any movement from the FDA/CDC and then my state expanded eligibility a few days later anyways...!

My opinion is basically that it clearly should be approved for all adults and there's no supply constraint in the US so...

Got my Pfizer booster on Sunday. Felt bad on Monday (aches/chills/headache) and was mostly fine on Tuesday (aches/chills went away but my head still felt disoriented at times, especially after doing things). All better today. That is compared to the first two shots that didn't have any side effects, except the sore arm.
