The best part is at least one of those medalists (if not all of them) from the other nations wouldnt have made the olympics if they counted as China.

Ohhhhh, so Chinese Taipei is actually Taiwan? But why would China get mad at calling it Taiwan, though?

China considers Taiwan a rogue province so it doesn't accept that they're independent. They lobbied to call them Chinese Taipei at sporting events so it sounds like a territory of China (like American Samoa) rather than it's own country.

That's why the image on the last page has Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong grouped with China.

Wouldnt that mean the US gets Puerto Rico's medal?
Using their logic? Yes.

Weird that the USA has 39 Golds and they show 38

It's also weird that Chinese Taipei has 2 Golds and Hong Kong has 1, meaning it would be 41

It's weird how hard math is ... and how to read a chart.

Like which Gold are they stating the USA took from them?

I mean, unlike Taiwan, Puerto Rico actually is both legally and functionally a part of the US so Im confused why its treated as separate here.

I was actually confused by that myself. Puerto Ricans are US citizens and Puerto Rico is not a sovereign nation.

During the decolonization period, places which were not yet independent were allow to form an Olympic committee. While most of these places later got independence a handful of nations ended up not. Nowadays, new members must be considered a country by the international community. This is a bit vague, as they allowed Kosovo to join despite half the world saying it isn't an independent nation.

Because legally, in China, Taiwan is part of the greater country. The equivalent scenario would be if Puerto Ricans considered themselves separate, and the rest of the UN was split as to whether or not it was a separate country or not but the USA would boycott the games if the Puerto Rico team wasn't called "American Puerto Rico".

Chinese history from the last 100 years really is fascinating, and a textbook example of why Communism is a blight on humanity.

I was taught China had a foundation of Communism in their regime, but with a Capitalist economy.

Worst combination possible.

Btw, for the people wondering why China is so good at Table Tennis, I found a rather eye-opening documentary about their daily lives and routines:
