Crescent-Moon 07/20/21 5:55:09 PM #2:	Japan's own people are against it because they've failed so badly with vaccines compared to other major countries, Covid is already rampant in the Olympic village, and four sponsors have dropped out over the past 48 hours. This will probably be the first Olympics of my lifetime I just don't watch any of. It feels so wildly uncomfortable. I suspect though that ratings will be abysmal. The ratings for most sports have gone down in the past year and the public perception of this Olympics is awful. I'm still legitimately surprised North Korea is the only country so far to withdraw. --- So a planet's somewhere out there, their history the same as ours is written. The only difference is that... It would take a large outbreak among athletes for it to stop and even then I imagine they may make it sport specific before pulling the plug entirely. Also for all the doom and gloom about the cases in Japan, they are only getting around 2000 a day. I remember in one of the recent olympic events from the past few years, the gold medal for snowboarding or something was awarded to someone so completely unexpected, where some TV stations weren't even bothering with filming their attempt and were just filming interviews at the time instead... What I'm wondering is, has this kind of thing ever happened in a judged event? Someone completely unexpected managing to earn gold, I mean. A lot of judged events have your routine or whatnot predetermined (you tell them what you are going to do) which sets a baseline score for you. Then they usually judge on deductions. The police and army are guarding anyone from entering or leaving. The train station was upgraded to accommodate international visitors. That's gone to waste.. So disappointing. Anyway... Add in the fact that we just had the Euro Cup and there isn't much of an appetite for them to take it seriously. Men's football is really only there to play lip service because not having the world's most popular sport at the Olympics would be weird. Tennis is pretty depleted, we are missing half the top players who declined (some due to injury).
