As a note, at these ranks it's clear why no one runs Absol on serious teams. You literally just have to play safe the first 3 minutes and he becomes almost obsolete for the rest of the game. Absol NEEDS an early lead and level 9 for Drednaw. But at these ranks, people just get the camps and then sit on their point and do nothing else until objectives come up. It makes it almost impossible to gank.

I've had to resort to clearing my camps and heading into their jungle to try and 1v1 the enemy jungler before he shouts on his comms to his teammates that I'm there. Sometimes I'm able to get the kill and get out in time... but sometimes not.

At least a benefit is that if my own team is actually watching (which is rare), they might come as well and we'll have a right ol hootenanny in the middle where everyone's level 3-4

Final spot is a bit of a toss up, could be any of a few good damage dealers. But I feel like those top 4 are almost a lock for any actual serious team.

I'm beginning to think gardevoir might be more core than lucario in a meta comp. She can control space very well in a stand off even without her ult, but when her ult is up she can just wipe an entire team with minimal support.

The main thing holding Gengar back is the control scheme. He would be SO broken on a Keyboard + Mouse setup where you don't have to worry about Hex autotargeting random non-Sludged targets. Team cohesion and CC shut him down as well, but you'd be able to mostly get around that with instant Hex clicks.

Maybe I'm missing something about Lucario, but he doesn't seem very strong after the first 4-5 minutes.

I mean, Lucario one shots me with his two abilities early AND late game.

Sure I'm an Asbol, but I can't one shot him sooooo.... I need like 3 Pursuit back attacks and probably at least 2 of them to crit.

It's great when I'm trying to feed off the wild pokemon and Gengar teleports through a wall in the opposite direction and attacks into a group of enemies from the other team.

The shields really arent that much. Hes still really squishy. But he'll crush a squishy target and assassinate tanks at about 50%.

His ult can be really awful too.

Well all I know is it's enough to almost always win a 1v1. At least against the ones I play.

Charizard at least can be a bit difficult to hit. Venusaur is a glass water pistol and Talonflame telegraphs everything.

Bought Eldegoss and played a couple of games as them... I think the main problem here, is that playing as Eldegoss means you kinda have to depend on your teammates more. And I absolutely, 100% cannot depend on my teammates in these random ranked games, so I end up feeling very ineffectual. It's not like I can stop 2-3 enemies from continually scoring when none of my buddies are around... not that I can stop that amount of enemies as an attacker or defender either, but I feel like in those roles I have a bit more autonomy. As Eldegoss though, I'm only as good as the teammates I'm supporting...

Also, you can't target allies with Pollen Puff? Makes it kinda hard to heal your allies then!

Yeah I wouldn't recommend playing Eldegoss in ranked anywhere lower than Expert or Veteran or unless you are with 4 friends you can count on. Otherwise you're just hoping for your randos to know what they are doing.

I mean, that's the primary reason I didn't choose Eldegoss to start with. I knew from experience with Overwatch that a good support can't save an abysmal team. But I didn't realize you would free licenses for basically everything BUT a Support character... I just want it to have on hand when playing with friends.

Uhhhh I guess the All Pokmon menu at team select is just fucked? Twice now it has glitched and then made me completely unable to select a Pokemon so I just get stuck with whatever my cursor happened to be on at that moment

Yeah, it really sucks. You can press the minus button to get out of it. It seems to happen if you press it at the same time you get the message that someone has already taken the Pokemon you currently have selected. I find it to be more reliable to move the cursor normally once or twice before opening the "All Pokemon" menu.

I had to play a ranked game on my alt to complete one of the day's quests so I carried my team to a 498-207 victory.

Now that doesn't see too lopsided until you see that I scored 385 of our points <_<

The current joint-#1 ranked player globally (Averse) gave his opinion today on what the best high rank team-comp should look like today, if anyone's interested. At least at this early stage of the's game's life.

He had Cinderace as the optimal jungler. The reason for this being that he considers Cinderace to be the best character in the game, with the most carry potential. Funneling as much exp from the jungle onto him as possible and getting him levelled up gives him the best chance of dominating fights. Speedsters, who are the most common junglers at lower ranks just don't have the kits/stats to carry in the same way.

For bot lane, he said Snorlax and Cramorant, although you could sub the latter with another strong Attacker like Ninetales or Gardevoir. Basically this pairing should be as oppressive as possible, as there's greater focus on this lane than top, as there are more Pokemon spawns, plus Drednaw.

Finally, he had top lane as Eldegoss and Lucario. Eldegoss speaks for itself - Lucario is more replaceable, but he's probably the best split-pusher in the game and one of the best duelists.

The best item set-up on most characters in his opinion is Muscle Band, Buddy Barrier and Focus Band, particularly BB and FB.

Any set recommendations? That's the thing that holds me back on trying out different characters because they are so many variations in what movesets to choose.

The set I posted at the end of my last post is a pretty universally useful set-up.

It might seem odd to suggest Muscle Band even on mage-like characters, but you find yourself auto-attacking much more in this game than most other MOBAs, particularly since every character has a passive where your third auto is empowered, so you get surprising value out of it.

The shield(s) you get from Buddy Barrier can make all the difference in a fight, especially around Zapdos, so whilst you won't get use from it throughout a match, it proves it's worth when it really counts.

Focus Band is just really good survivability, especially when you get it level 20 the regen gets really strong and it'll push you over the line in more 1v1 fights.

I'm going to mess around with other things now that I've hit masters. Mostly Zeraora now since near the end of the road, Absol's weaknesses were REALLY starting to show. I have no interest in the current top tier pokemon, none of them would make my top 300 pokes so I'm not playing them.
