Look it up. Seems like the general consensus is 10,000 steps takes about 80 to 100 minutes.

I would agree that a brisk walk is like 100-125 steps per minute, which works out to exactly the range 80-100 minutes. Closer to 2 hours for leisurely walking

1. Average in this sense is a single number that reflects an amount of steps taken by an "average American" and not "the arithmetic mean number of steps taken by individuals in our measured population." The models take into account parameters such as age, sex, ethnicity, social class etc. and uses those variables to extrapolate the measured population (which is not composed identically to the US population as a whole) to apply to the entire US population.

2. "Average" needn't only refer to arithmetic mean. Average is just shorthand for a single measure of central tendency, which (in scientific or statistical conversation) can refer to mean, median, or commonly mode. When I'm editing manuscripts, I would replace "average" with "mean" if that's what the authors actually intended to say, and only leave "average" if they mean "typical."

Lmfao. As if you could ever determine a mode for such a statistic or that it would even be reliable. Good to see more than a decade on this board and you still take things way too seriously.

There's quite a few geoloc games on the app stores too. I was playing one years ago and some kid had taken all the lands in my area. I conquered them and ended up running into him, but he was like 9 years old and it would've been awkward so I just laughed and went back to my car. I must look like such a loser playing geoloc games when only kids are doing them. I'm the only male my age I've ever seen playing them. I saw one shop owner lady playing Pokemon Go, but I got tired of that game. It was too repetitive. Someone from inside a pizza place that was closed was helping me beat some boss once. I always thought that was weird. The lights were out and no cars in the parking lot.

That's what I average at work.there is walking at my job but its not constant. Where I said I did 20k was a different post at my job where it is a lot of walking.

I personally pay more heed to the miles counter. Personal best is 16 miles. Sadly that's nothing compares to my brother and he does it for fun for me it was work. He walked across 3 counties and back one day

Well, as for distance, it does measure it via gps mapping. The distance I walked was definitely over 6.5 miles because it's normally 5 and I did a our 1.5 extra today by taking an extended route to see where a new bulldozed path led.

The odd thing is the time. It says 136 minutes. Felt more like 3 hours, but I don't see it screwing up on time. The sad thing is, 20 years ago, I could do almost double that distance in nearly half the time jogging. I was 50lbs lighter too. Sometimes I don't even know how I was that person anymore.

Personally, I can't wait for the dystopian future where insurance companies force us to share our fitness data and ping us for being fatties. Can you imagine in like 2050, your government issue citizen health band waking you up at 5am and telling you to get out of bed and go walk because you're not as physically fit as the rest of the ants at the factory? Gotta be fit so you can work hard and produce more widgets for the regime's war machine.

I know the figures that I get in Samsung Health are pretty accurate. When I got my first smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, the step figures were very close to those measured by my 3DS, less than 5 steps difference on a 1/2 mile walk. And the area I live in is laid out on a standard PLSS grid with roads every one mile, which is what the watch comes up with when I go for a long walk.

I also found some hell stairs that look like they lead up to the bridge.

I started to go up them, but I stopped pretty quickly since parts of the railing were covered with plants and spiderwebs and it seemed kind of dangerous.

Yeah, the spiders really ruin some bridge walks in season. Happened to me in Buffalo back in 2011. I was tempted to bring a broom and brush them all off, but the damn things we're along the entire walkway. I got chills just being near them and kept feeling as if things were crawling on me when they obviously weren't. And I like spiders too. My biology obviously doesn't care.

I mean there had to have been 100,000 of them.

It would be cool if we could all make a guild on some smartphone game and team up kicking ass with collective steps.

Ok... so maybe that sounds dumb, but it could be cool if they did it right.
