Various studies have found the average adult in the US takes about 5000 steps per day, where 5000 and fewer being labeled sedentary.

10000 steps per day is often cited as a starting point for health and wellness.

Walking is considered one of the best forms of activity, requiring no special equipment, able to be done anywhere, and being low impact.

Will you STEP IT UP and shoot for more activity through walking??

Nope. I'll continue taking an average of 50 steps per day.

I sometimes do an hour of elliptical high resistance in the morning and an hour of neighborhood walking at night and I'm no where near 10000

My pedometer says over 18k yesterday but it's probably a damn liar. Ok nm, maybe it's right but it can't actually be that many. It's measuring smaller steps, gotta be. That's insane. I'm like a rat in a maze.

if you wanted to start walking you could do so with no barriers like "oh I need to go buy X just so I can take part in that activity"

On a serious note, if you guys really are a bunch of 30+ year olds. You don't want to have days you don't move. High LDL and a low metabolism is ripe for developing plaque in those arteries along with hyper tension. You at least want to keep some dumbbells near if your being a couch potato and doing a couple sets each hour.

Please get your bloodwork done and donate blood when you can. It's quick and easy

So....10 steps each way to the bathroom, average 3 trips a day, which is 60 steps, maybe another 40 steps to make food etc, so 100 steps a day * 30 days =3000 steps average a month.

That was me for most of covid, now I walk alot more due to working, but still mostly drive, probably up to like 500 steps a day at least though.

I feel fine.

And how'd they come up with the significance for this 5,000 number? Because knowing the other nonsense you believe, I'm guessing it's some non-medical person from over a hundred years ago who specifically said the calculation wasn't meant to be used like that.

He's always been pretty heavily gimmicked, but lately he's leaned so far into the gimmick that I'm not sure there's anything but gimmick now. I think it was his meathead topic where he really jumped the shark, in which he pretended to fundamentally misunderstand the insult and ignore the other common meaning to try to spin it.

Yeah I've made ones about Bezos space flight, instant pot yogurt, complaining about the heat/humidity. I've also said running is stupid and I refuse to do it, which is the opposite of any kind of bragging. I've said nothing about my own activity here and as already stated walking is one of the lowest to barrier entry activities so if I wanted to brag I picked a pretty bad way to do it

Seeing average steps nowadays is pretty easy to get info for companies (who probably are the ones doing this research) as pretty much phones and watches are uploading that data to fitness apps pre-installed to the devices. Even if you are not tracking it, it is tracking it.

Is your iron count too low or blood pressure too high? Why did they disqualify you? My girlfriend got disqualified for low iron because she's a skinny vegan. I got disqualified last summer for slamming an energy drink right before.

Not sure what else you can disqualify for. Ive done that rapid pass on the app 20 times now but most of that stuff are things most would say no I think.

He's gay. He's also married and (presumably) isn't exactly sleeping around enough to actually be at a higher risk of having HIV, but that's not good enough for donation guidelines.

Specifically, they don't allow any man that's had sex with a man within the past... year? It's 3 months in Canada, and I think the FDA dropped it to 3 months because of Covid-induced demand and shortages, but I believe it's normally a year in the US.

You don't have to be able to donate to do that. That's a pretty readily-available medical procedure.

Yes, I recall there occasionally being therapeutic donations when I worked for the red cross. The donation was always discarded, because the donation volume is nonstandard (and the donation packs have a premeasured volume of anticoagulant).

I'd honestly be surprised if it was actually even that high. People who own step trackers (especially back in 2003, like that first study you posted) are likely walking a lot more than the average person. From my experience, I'd estimate it's closer to 2,000 - 3,000, possibly even less than that.

Also, 10,000 steps is a bullshit, completely made-up number.
