Also I agree... the advantages this season are excessive. We're getting some quality character development, but we're not seeing where people stand. It's creating a convoluted final product that could be streamlined if they spent more time explaining what was happening instead of trying to spurn people into "BIG MOVEZ" by giving them playthings they probably won't play anyway... and wasting airtime with it.

The entire tryst with Brad, Syd, and Tiffany was a waste of time because it all amounted to nothing... aside from Sydney hating Tiffany in about two minutes. Still, they could've cut that out entirely and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Survivor has become mindless entertainment, which is sad considering it used to be a fun show to dissect intellectually. Social strategy and game theory came into play before. Now it's just passing entertainment filled with advantages and transience and it's not fun anymore.

So I heard something intriguing about the end of this season and it's potentially troubling as far as the future of spoiling is concerned.

It's not results-related or even twist-related or anything like that, but.... I'm putting it in spoiler tags just in case.

Apparently the FTC votes were read/winner was announced on site in Fiji, just like in season 1. I guess in addition it makes me concerned that we may never see a reunion again, though given how shitty they've gotten in recent years it makes me wonder if that's necessarily a negative.

Given that at the time this was filmed, there was no guarantee a reunion would be allowed/even be a good idea given ongoing pandemic issues, I think it makes sense that they just read the votes there.

As for the show itself, God it's pissing me off just how badly they are mucking up this season with an overabundance of twists. As much as I love him as host, Jeff Probst as executive producer was the worst thing that happened to this show. He absolutely does not care about any sort of character development or coherent story arcs coming out in the edit, and he constantly spits in the face of the longtime fans by saying that the "real" fans want to see all these dumbass twists. He has a "we're doing the show my way or we're not doing it at all" attitude and takes it extremely personally when the fans don't like a new twist, yet absolutely refuses to give them what they've been asking for for nearly a decade now which is just leave it alone and let the players play the damn game and maybe throw in the very occasional curveball once or twice a season that doesn't disrupt the show so Goddamn much.

Like who is Heather? Is she even on the show? And even though they're being "shown," I couldn't tell you the first damn thing about Danny, or DeShawn. I was looking at the list of names on this season and I came across an "Eric" and, until I realized that that's Abraham's actual first name, totally 100% believed that we had a Brett on our hands and there was someone in the cast that I literally didn't realize existed yet.

Sydney is still my winner pick.

I so agree. Ever since he became Game Master with Blood vs. Water, the show has gradually fallen apart. I think the real killer was the fandom not liking Worlds Apart, which is actually a good season (but not a great one), and then fans loving Cambodia, which is something you can't replicate with newbies.

I truly miss Dave Burris having authority over Probst. I think the show would be a LOT better off if Jeff was simply #2 instead of running the show into the ground. The incoherence of the rules, the inundation of advantages, the lack of "camp life" scenes, and the slipshod character development are all solely due to him. It's no longer about the human elements that make it such a fun show, and I miss being intellectually stimulated by Survivor. Instead, I feel stupider just watching it.

I honestly don't know how much longer I'm gonna hold out.

Actually, I think Worlds Apart has most if not all of the elements of a great Survivor season, but the glue that holds them all together is missing, and unfortunately the result is an extremely unpleasant season.

Worlds Apart would've been a good season if the editing wasn't so heavy-handed. But instead of making ANY effort to portray the dominant (but ultimately losing) alliance in a positive light, the editors went all in on making Mike the greatest American hero in the history of the show. And in doing that, they similarly made the dominant alliance a group of vile, irredeemable assholes and otherwise irrelevant nobodies.

Worlds Apart put them in a tough situation, because the only person from the majority alliance that they could've edited positively was Carolyn. I mean, they could've tried with Tyler and Sierra, but I don't think either of them gave the editors much to work with.

They could've edited Dan as more of a goofball and less of an asshole. They could've edited Rodney as more of a mastermind as less of a whiny douche. They could've edited Will as more of a likable social player and less of a dickhead for what he did to Shirin.

Remember that Shirin got voted out of the Dirty 30 after Cambodia. Will and Dan have not been similarly cut out, though I think Will has distanced himself from Survivor. Dan at least read Mario Lanza's spirited defense of his edit.

I'm gonna dig to see who all was at Mike and Meg's wedding. That's the best way to see who's still in that circle since it was two weeks ago.

Last night's episode was probably the best of the season so far. Shan is gradually shifting into my "winner pick" position but I'm still wondering why blue is getting so much content for a tribe that hasn't been to tribal.

I'm thinking there might actually not be a swap this season. We're already down to 13 which means we have max 2 more boots before the merge (and really I'm thinking one) and the preview for next episode didn't seem to suggest a swap.

I'm so glad JD is finally gone. Part of me feels bad about feeling this as he's a nerd trying to be as cool and awesome as he thinks he can be, but he's so horribly fake without any self awareness. Maybe a lot of it is the edit: balancing Danny's honesty and Xander's well-placed lie with JD's awful bs story over the extra vote; hyping himself during challenges and showboating only to constantly fail; giving his extra vote to Shan... again. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice..." well, he's voted out so he won't get fooled again.

I'm interested if anything comes of the contrast between Heather not giving up, and DeShawn trying to throw the challenge. Interesting that it wasn't played in a super negative light after Heather's trials and Probst's praise for never quitting. Also another big positive on Naseer at the expense of Danny and DeShawn. First episode was about the HII and showing Naseer as right, this episode they didn't even need to rope Danny into things (especially since it never once looked like he was throwing).

Curious that we got Shan humming again as well.

I had originally written off Naseer as a potential winner because his SPV (second-person visibility, ie what other contestants say about him) is so overwhelmingly negative but it's primarily come from Sydney, Danny and DeShawn who have all now been proven to be unreliable narrators in some way (either by having negative SPV themselves or contradicting their own words with their actions), and it's starting to seem like the audience is actually supposed to see him in a positive light, so there could be something there.

I'd like a no-swap season. We haven't had one since Philippines.

Philippines technically had a tribe reconfiguration; the originally planned 3:2 swap at 14 was replaced by the tribe dissolution. They thought because Matsing was Matsing that it would make more sense to retain the dynamics on Kalabaw and Tandang. They were right.

The last season to not have had a swap of any variety was South Pacific, which was ten years ago now. Insane. I'm all for this new swapless twist.

Last night's episode was probably the best of the season so far. Shan is gradually shifting into my "winner pick" position but I'm still wondering why blue is getting so much content for a tribe that hasn't been to tribal.

Blue barely had anything before last night. Heather and Erika where wholly irrelevant until yesterday, DeShawn was hardly in the premiere, and Danny was nigh purple in episodes 2 and 3. Sydney was the consistent narrator and Naseer was getting a lot of content too. The lack of content is why the winner is not on Luvu. I also don't understand why people hate Sydney - if a man acted like that, they'd probably love him, so I don't get it.

Last night was great. First time it felt like Survivor and that's because there wasn't any advantage bloat for most of the episode. I also like how the "Shot in the Dark" twist hasn't even been utilized, and it would be great if nobody ever played theirs. The more twists that backfire, the better. Survivor is broken because of production's insistence on fixing it when it WASN'T broken.

Also, it's annoying how people are whining about this being "the hardest season EVAH" when... it's not even close. In fact, if it doesn't rain at all, I'd probably rank this as the easiest season to date. It has NOTHING on the oppressive conditions of seasons like Africa and Kaoh Rong, the nonos in the Marquesas, or the insane rain of seasons including Samoa, Philippines (I mean, they named their merge tribe Fuckingrayne), and Cambodia. Other seasons like Exile Island and David vs. Goliath also proved to be quite difficult.

Naseer probably isn't winning but he's getting the redemption hero edit. Tiffany has the journey edit (and man, is she a BEAST at throwing shit). The only people I can see as potential winners at this point are Shan and Evvie, with an outside chance of Liana or Ricard.

Gonna miss JD's entertainment factor some. The guy was definitely interesting and I enjoyed him but I think if he had stuck around for too much longer, he'd have outstayed his welcome.

Also, if anyone is a Legends of the Hidden Temple fan here, it rebooted on Sunday in an adult format... with Chelsea Walker (IOI) as a contestant.

I think part of why Luvu is dominating is because they've never lost their flint. Production would've had to have known that it was likely that the tribe that won the first challenge could become a Tandang or Aparri - even if there was conflict brewing, they were still better nourished because 1) they didn't have to worry about politicking, giving them more time to get food and 2) they had fire to cook fish and such with. This would get them to win challenges. I would hope they prepared for the possibility. I also hope the flint nonsense goes away because it heavily favors the tribe that so happens to win the first challenge.

Frankly I'd rather someone be over-the-top while lacking self-awareness than be over-the-top and completely self-aware, because the former comes across as just a ridiculous human being while the latter comes across as a desperate camera whore.

For me, if JD was just an over-the-top nerd who thinks he's a jock, that would be kind of fun. But instead he really played into this "superfan" archetype, but also had enough self-awareness to want to emulate his favorite players (who are distinctly NOT nerdy superfans). It was a bit grating, and I honestly wish he was gone last week over Brad.
