I think the more reasonable objections are:
- applying modern social norms to stuff from a decade ago
- the internet's frequent inattention to nuance/context/facts, assuming guilt without any fair process
- not allowing people to grow and move on from mistakes

That said i feel like 90% of the time its reasonable backlash to someone being shitty and the right overblows it

Cancel culture is stupid. Because if you think you didn't say some dumb ass offensive shit while drunk or young you're flat out lying.

I'm pretty such digging up old crap to force apologies for is on lists of examples of emotional abuse. If it's current, the punishments usually overshoot the crime. I don't support mass shaming for the same reason I don't support shooting someone for spilling soda on the carpet.

I don't have enough faith in my ability to judge somebody's entire character from an out of context tweet for me to use it as conclusive evidence that they are a "bad person".

See, the naive thing is thinking there's such a thing as a good person or a bad person. Everybody does at least one good thing or one bad thing at one point in their entire lives, and it's possible to paint a person as a bad person for a single bad act, which makes that entire concept rather silly.

Everybody is capable of doing something terrible to another person that could very easily be judged by a large group of people. Some are illegal because society has deemed it so, and some are legal crimes from at least one person's point of view.

As long as you still have a platform, youre not cancelled and since platforms are so plentiful on social media you will always have another platform to do whatever. No one considered Donald Trump to have been cancelled when Twitter banned his account.
When Ellen degeneres got accused of being an asshole employer her show continued to be aired on TV for the rest of its entire season until Ellen herself decided to quit and not renew her contract. She quit and people say she got canceled. Can you watch the following clip and tell me thats an example of someone being cancelled? Cuz what I see is someone, like Ellen, who decided to leave the stage herself much like everyone else who claims theyve been cancelled.
