His neighbors cat crawled into his home through the doggy door. His dog then attacked the cat, but the cat was ultimately fine. The neighbors insisted he cover the costs of the cats medical expenses. But he thinks its the neighbors fault for letting their cat enter his house.
Every now and then my neighbors cat would be sitting on top of the fence and my dog would bark at it, but the cat would run off, he wrote. Not really an issue. [Then] their cat came through MY doggy door. My dog was alerted within seconds and reacted way faster than I could ever. The cat did receive some damage, but I managed to save it from my dog. I then rushed it to the neighbors, and I drove them to the vet (they didnt have a car.) Their cat was okay, hurt, but okay. I brought them home and as I was saying my goodbyes and giving my condolences, they asked about medical expenses.
The Reddit poster has insurance for his dog, but couldnt afford the cats bills.
I told my neighbor this, but they told me Im at fault because it was my dog who attacked their cat, he said. I failed to see how it was my fault, as the animal was trespassing in my own home, and my dog was reacting because its territory was being infiltrated. They said some choice words but I ended up refusing to pay by saying, Im not paying for your cats medical bills, forget it, and I walked away. Other neighbors are now giving me dirty looks and I just dont feel welcomed here.

The story acknowledges that he was the one to bring the cat to them so they only have his word for it... although I guess if he was anonymously posting it on Reddit he would have less incentive to lie? idk, if it did wander into his house there's really not much he could have done about it, although having doggy doors without any kind of security method is generally kinda stupid.

By letting their cat out alone, they consented to anything that would happen to it there, someone commented.

I wonder if a certain Gamefaqs user who suggested it was okay to throw cats made his way over to Reddit...

Yeah, that's how I actually feel, even as a cat lover.

I voted #3 as a compromise based on maybe not having all the info and it being hilarious. But it sounds pretty accurate overall. Pet/neighbor disputes are always fucking shitshows.

The cat came into his home you cant fault the dog or the owner for the dog attacking the cat. Its sad for the cat owners but they are responsible for their own vet bill in this situation. Its better to keep cats indoors when possible, and if theyre wandering a neighborhood and going into other homes then thats likely not going to turn it well.

Assuming it did go down as the guy said it did (which is a pretty big if, given that we're only hearing his side of the story), it sounds like he did everything he could reasonably be expected to do to protect the cat and keep the dog from harming it. Expecting him to also pay the vet bills would be pretty unreasonable.

Why should they split the bill? The cat owners awww completely at fault. In many cities (mine included), it's against the law to let your car freely roam the streets. Shouldn't have been allowed to get into this situation.
