Cleared the second battle area in 13 Sentinels. It was definitely more difficult (didn't get all S-ranks this time, but I did for over half still), but I did manage to win all of them first try.

With that, I can now continue with Kisaragi, Amiguchi, Shinonome, and Kurabe. We'll tackle them in that order.

I hit a lock in Kisaragi's route, which was then unlocked by completing Amiguchi's route! So Miyuki Inaba is the AI Kisaragi, which makes sense because Ida fell in love with her as an internet singer or whatever. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Inaba's song playing during the last wave of the second area was a pretty cool touch.

Back to finish up Kisaragi.

I think the basic concept of David Brent's character is that he's trying to use this documentary to get famous, so he wants everyone to think he's good at everything. That being said, I don't have an ear for music, so I can't tell if his song was supposed to be good or bad. I didn't think it was THAT bad, although it wasn't that good either.

it's supposed to be bad. not in the sense that david can't sing or play guitar or that the composition is terrible but in the sense that the lyrics are really cheesy and bad. but the more important point of that scene is that it's ridiculous that david is singing his entire song from start to finish when they're supposed to be doing a training session.

also, season 1 > season 2 as far as office UK goes imo

Yeah, I understand that it's supposed to be bad that he derailed a training session to sing a song with lyrics that made no sense, but I couldn't tell if he was supposed to be a good singer or a bad singer.

Tomi Kisaragi's route in 13 Sentinels complete! So the "real" Kisaragi was a terraforming researcher who finalized phase 2 of the interstellar development project, though she estimated it would take 1800 years to make another planet habitable for humans. Also, we're actually on another planet? I thought we were on a spaceship or space colony, like Amiguchi did.

Let's move on to Shinonome now.

Ryoko Shinonome's route in 13 Sentinels complete! So Ida manipulated Ryoko into putting DD-426 into the Sentinels? But why would he do that? To make sure the kaiju succeeded or what? Also, I wonder if this nanomachine infection is what happened to people on Earth, although it would raise the question of how it happened there as well.

All right, time to finish up Juro.

And that's Juro Kurabe's route done in 13 Sentinels! As strange as it is to say, I kind of understand Izumi's motives and rationale, even if his motives are extreme. He's genuinely trying to stop the kaiju in order to save Megumi. It's also kind of great that he tries to use the fact that the kaiju are based off of a video game to their advantage to, well, beat them at their own game.

Also it doesn't make Morimura look very good that she gave up on the Sentinel project when she realized she wasn't going to get the "real" Izumi back after he "became" Kurabe instead. I feel like she's supposed to be the "good guy" out of the adult characters, but it's more complicated than that, obviously.

Well, that unlocks Megumi's route, so let's move back to her.

And now Megumi Yakushiji's route in 13 Sentinels complete! So the purpose of the nanomachines Megumi was injecting was to give them the ability to enhance their Sentinels, although it also allows the kaiju to enhance themselves, so it's a double-edged sword in a sense. Also has it really been millions of years since 2188 and humanity's been extinct since then? I couldn't tell if he was telling the truth there, but it seems wild.

With that, we've only got two left. I'm finally able to continue as Renya Gouto. I can imagine why they saved him for near the end since he's the only one who's kinda known what's been going on the whole time.

Seriously though, looking forward to your impressions on how the new Mako handles. I never truly minded the original once I got used to it but hey if it was made better, that's great!

We're going to be there for a week. Got plans to do some hiking and sightseeing, visiting Pearl Harbor, going to a luau, spending a lot of time on the beach, all that good Hawaii stuff you're supposed to do. We're staying at a resort right on Waikiki Beach with an ocean view room, too, so we're pretty hyped.

Okay, I hit the lock on Gouto's route in 13 Sentinels! As expected, this one starts dropping plot bombs all over the place. Chibi-hiro actually contains the memories of the "real" Morimura instead of her clone, and for some reason, she didn't want this world to survive, which I don't get because isn't this entire project her idea? We also learn that Okino is her son via IVF. Gouto is also in love with clone Morimura, and we learn that Ida lied about Izumi killing everyone after the Sentinel infection. It's starting to feel like Ida is the real big bad here rather than 426/Izumi.

Looks like I've got to get halfway through the third area to continue with Gouto's story.

We eventually got to Therum to find Liara, and we got to the fight at the end of the Mako section, where you have to fight a bunch of geth, including a Colossus, on foot. I remember this part being a huge pain, and she eventually had to stop for the night because it was too frustrating for her. She's still trying to figure out the basics of combat, much less how to order her squadmates or use her skill wheel.

Takatoshi Hijiyama's route complete in 13 Sentinels! So the 80% that the D-Code's processing power is devoted to is providing sensory data to everyone in these simulated worlds to make them "feel" real. The "cockpits" of the Sentinels are the only things that are real, and they're pods that these 15 people are sleeping in, it seems. I'm still not sure what the actual status of these characters is, how much time has really elapsed since 2188, and where they actually are, but hopefully we'll find out soon!

All right, only Gouto to go to finish up the story mode!

Renya Gouto's route complete in 13 Sentinels! All right, so Professor Morimura was planning to implant her memories into her clone, but Sekigahara killed her before she could finish the process. Then Juro Izumi finished the job for her. She's also working to get Ogata's dad's memories implanted into (presumably) Ogata, although I don't know why you'd want that guy back since everything is pretty clearly his fault.

I'm wondering if this repeating kaiju cycle is the result of the failure of the space colony. Professor Morimura didn't trust humanity not to destroy itself, so she just had the same 20 year cycle repeat over and over again, or something like that, at least until she could take over the clone Morimura. She believed humanity needed a leader, and she fancies herself to be that leader, although she didn't seem to do a good job when she was alive...! Gouto makes her a bet that she'll allow them to help her fulfill her dream if they can essentially complete Operation Aegis without her attempting to sabotage them.

Also, the mystery files reveal that the big scar on Miura's head was the result of Okino's cure of DD-426, and the new nanomachines automatically spread to anyone who came into contact with him so they could reactivate the Sentinels.

All right, to the Final Battle!

13 Sentinels beated! Although it apparently unlocked a fourth area in battle mode, but I don't know if there's anything plot related for it.

Just need to finish up a few things for the Platinum with battle modes, and that'll give me some time to process everything and give my final thoughts on it.

I did the first battle and realized there was nothing in it besides just fighting kaiju! The battle system is pretty fun, but not 9999 levels of fun.

Whew, 13 Sentinels Platinum get! Great game! Highly recommend if you're a fan of NieR, similar type of story and storytelling in a lot of ways. It even has 2B's and 9S's VAs, and they're childhood friends in this game...!

I need to get to bed, so I won't give my final thoughts on the ending, but I'll do a quick character ranking:

Sekigahara > Juro > Hijiyama > Natsuno > Gouto > Amiguchi > Shinonome > Miura > Takamiya > Iori > Ogata > Kisaragi > Megumi

Really strong cast. Kind of difficult to rank them with any confidence just because I can make arguments for moving most of them up or down!

LOL so gematsu reported on a Kaguya-sama VN that is 99.999% an unofficial fanmade game that is about to get cease and desisted into orbit but for a brief moment I was pretty hype.

I've long thought that either a VN or Persona (Social/School side ofc) style would actually work really well for a hypothetical Kaguya game.
