I think my favorite game I never finished is Final Fantasy IV? I might be forgetting something though.

...I guess Higurashi counts if we're considering visual novels which is in the running for my favorite piece of media ever >.>. I did finish several of the individual chapters there though.

I'm pretty good (or bad, depending on how you look at it) at finishing games I start so I don't really have many options to pick from...

...but my answer is definitely Pillars of Eternity 2. The only reason I didn't finish it was the sheer burnout of playing like 80% of PoE1 on console before technical issues derailed it. Followed immediately by actually completing PoE1 on PC and then PoE2 and I still got really far... but then some bugs seemed to creep in and I just stopped.

really should get back to that... by which i mean start over at poe1 lmao.

Yeah, I'm generally good about finishing games as long as I'm actually enjoying the game, so my list of unfinished games is fairly short if I'm limiting it to stuff I actually like.

Yoshi's Crafted World was enjoyable enough, but I didn't get around to finishing it. I was a bit repetitive, but still qualifies as a game I like and haven't finished.

I generally finish games or drop them permanently because I don't like them. I dropped Thumper, which I really like, because it's too hard, so that might count here, but I don't intend to go back to it.

Sephiroth had probably been having the same thoughts himself. Just hearing it from another person might have been enough to push him over the edge.

13 Sentinels: Progressed the stories of Yakushiji, Sekigahara, Fuyusaka, and Kurabe until they hit locks. Just have Minami's left and unless that lifts a lock on one of the others or opens a new character I'll have to go fight.

Okay so there were some bombs being dropped here. I played through them in that order above but I'll save Yakushiji for later because it all kinda spiraled from Sekigahara on. Definitely seems like my "fighting retreat" idea was accurate on some level but the real bombshell was when a girl who looked like Fuyusaka was addressed as Chihiro Morimura. So I'm going to revise/update my working theory some. There's definitely some weird shit going on here. At first I was thinking it was just as "simple" as Morimura (who looks like Fuyusaka) jumps back to around the time she had been born, but ages up normally into the Morimura we know and tries to change things and probably ropes in her alternate self (who would now appear like the Fuyusaka we know... but that doesn't work out if you keep jumping backwards in time. The OG Fuyusaka would be born at a fixed point, let's say 2090 for the sake of argument so even if that pair of Fuyusaka's jumped back to 2070 there wouldn't be a third one there now. Grabbing other alt-timeline versions and sending them back to various points? Clones? idk. But however it's done we know that Morimura appeared looking like Fuyusaka in her original timelime before jumping back. Amiguchi's OG version (or at least an earlier one) was named Ida. And it sounds like the Aegis system we're using in the present is some last ditch all-or-nothing move to beat the kaiju at the cost of breaking time.

Also, Izumi, Morimura, and Okino found a UFO under the city in the post-apocalyptic future with a countdown timer that they think is related to the invasion. Also Okino also floating the "ancient civilization" idea as the origin for it makes him SUSPECT NUMBER 1 for Fluffy. I don't know why he turned into a cat but I'm rolling with this. Also Izumi/Kurabe formed AVALANCHE to save the world from Skynet (it sounds like the time travelers invented the sci-fi genre as cryptic warnings of the future) before concluding Amaguchi/Ida is the cause of the whole problem for inventing nanomachines and trying to kill everyone.

Also back to Yakushiji and Fluffy, the Homura/Kyubey vibes intensifying lmao. He actually contracted her to seal witches! With a gun! I'd say that makes him more metal than Kyubey but he's got a long way to go to reach the master's level.

midgar is awesome. it's kind of audacious that they built this full-scale RPG world... and then happily confine you to this one sprawling but claustrophobic city for like 1/3 of the game straight. and leaving feels so weird, especially because you don't really turn back at all to "home."

Man, between him, Roy Williams, and Boeheim all retiring so close together it really feels like the end of an era. Coach K is the biggest of course, Duke is going to feel so different to me now.

It's kinda nice getting reacquainted with Crossbell in Azure, but it just reminds me of how big this place is! At least I basically know my way around now, so making sure I visit everywhere isn't too bad, but I'm moving at such a slow pace since I have to make sure to talk to everyone!

Is it really a third of the game? I assume disc 3 is shorter, but it seems like theres a pretty large chunk of disc 1 remaining post-Midgar!

But yeah; Midgar is pretty cool and definitely a bold plot decision!

I don't think anyone would have been referring to this aspect which is probably more of a thing in Azure? Cold Steel didn't mess her character up by adding weird gimmicks, they did it by taking away everything else about her character that people liked. (Though I actually somewhat liked what they did with her towards the middle and end of Cold Steel 4, but I might not have known that depending on what point in time I would have been commenting.)

I guess we'll see, but she's made the exact same first impression in both Azure and Cold Steel 3, so we're not off to the best start!

I am enjoying the slow buildup so far because it lets you get adjusted to the new party members while also clearly laying the foundation for something big fairly soon (I mean, I already know what it is because of Cold Steel, but it'll be nice to see it in action!).

13 Sentinels: Prologues for Minami, Takamiya, and Shinonome cleared.

I guess Minami got away from the post-apocalyptic 2060s. Wonder if that's just off-screen "don't worry about it" or if it'll be revisited in a flashback. Either way, not sure why robot is obsessed with trashing the locker room, that's just rude! I appreciate the branching paths because it lets me do silly things liek see if I can talk to the MIB guys who I'm clearly supposed to be stealthing away from just to see what happens. lmao at Ogata getting wrecked when he tried to rush one of them. That unlocked Takamiya but I went back to Minami to do the section without getting caught and whoops we Back to the Future III'd ourselves and are trapped.

Next was Takamiya who is now my new favorite. Love her attitude and how her section was basically detective stuff around the school. Also working for the SIU will Sae be our partner? Got Minami's notebook and tracked her to the shrine but got a flashback with Shinonome where BJ played a record of Shinonome admitting to giving up humanity because Ida lied to her and they were the only survivors. And putting the world on loop. ...Ida and Morimura were talking about this, or something like it, when Sekigahara walked in on them back in one of his chapters. Sounded like it was Morimura's idea at the time though so idk. More on this scene later. Next time we actually went to the shrine but it was a dead end. Finally played it through again and took the detective work the other direction to the not-fire only to learn we've got ourselves an impostor situation. Takamiya hasn't worked out the obvious that Aiba is the culprit because she's just comically suspect the whole way through but oh well.

Finally over to Shinonome and whoa I don't approve of this crush. Also wow this was a short prologue and heel turn by Sekigahara. Back in 1985 and Shinonome has become my almost-favorite because her section has been pretty neat so far though I stopped pretty early. The headache effect is neat if maybe a bit too frequent. And the investigation bit became appropriately creepy when Kisaragi pulled a Get Out and was like "run away." Flashback showed that Juro piloted her Aegis when he tried and failed to save Yakushiji's timeline and she's predictably not happy about it. Stopped there but will pick up with Shinonome and seeing what other branches I can investigate.

Overall, I think the mystery of the session became 426/the saboteur and man my theories were updating in real time... or I guess my suspect list kept getting longer especially as Shinonome filled in some info in her section since she's the character most read-in on the overarching plot I've unlocked so far. I'm pretty sure it's not Sekigahara, it's too obvious a frame. My first thought was Okino because he appears to fit the bill as someone with the know-how to tamper with the gates/lock people out and Minami caught him running experiments on the Sentinels. Hell, I think he might have even said they're his now which would probably have him dead-to-rights. But for alternate theories, you've got Shinonome herself based on that recording where future her claims to have sabotaged whatever this Ark project is. And then there's Ida who in that scene where Sekigahara caught him talking to Morimura told Sekigahara to secretly reprogram the Sentinels. And then there's the undercurrent that Shinonome might be drugged into being controlled by Morimura with Gotou as her handler so who even knows.

I do like how they manage to give each route its own unique quirks so they don't all feel the same.
