I didn't think second degree was even remotely possible at the start of this. Big credit to the prosecution.I thought it was possible but super unlikely. I don't think the video alone was enough to get a second degree conviction, but it was definitely enough for the other two. Though I did just remember that judges do tend to be more reluctant to give appeals to cases where a guilty verdict was reached quickly, so let's hope we don't run into one that does. Getting a not guilty on all three charges would have been bullshit of the highest order because how the fuck would it not even be manslaughter? But the bar has fallen into the Earth's core and melted so you just never know. Definitely thought there was a dangerously high chance the two murder counts might come not guilty though which is why I was holding my breath at the start there.

Yeah I could definitely have seen a jury buying the argument against murder (even if it was bullshit), but I think this case was kind of fundamentally different from most of the other high profile cases in that I dont think there was a path to convincing yourself that what Chauvin did wasnt wrong even if you gave him maximum benefit of the doubt to a comical degree.
