The league kicked off with a fantasy draft where all 32 teams could select any player in the game's database. Though 14 seasons have been completed there are still a few players who remain with the team that selected them in the draft. They are:

LT Khalif Barnes (Bengals)
LG Logan Mankins (Packers)
LG Justin Smiley (Lions)
C Jeff Faine (Packers)
RG Chris Snee (Seahawks)
RG Jonathan Clinkscale (Lions)
RG Shawn Andrews (Bears)
RT Elton Brown (Broncos)
RT Shane Olivea (Broncos)
LE Travis Johnson (Dolphins)
DT Tommie Harris (Broncos)
K Rob Bironas (Lions)
K Lawrence Tynes (Jets)
K Josh Brown (Packers)
K Jeff Reed (Colts)
K Nate Kaeding (Pioneers)
K Mike Nugent (Washington)
K Josh Scobee (49ers)
K Robbie Gould (Titans)
P Dave Zastudil (Vikings)
P Kyle Larson (Eagles)

Broncos, Lions, and Packers still have three.
Bears, Bengals, Colts, Eagles, 49ers, Jets, Pioneers, Seahawks, Titans, Vikings, and Washington have one left
Every other team has zero

Restricted Free Agency

This minor but oddly detailed offseason event is for a small subset of players who just completed their untampered rookie contract that was exactly three years in length. These players are not eligible to be originally offered multi-year contracts by the team that holds their rights but instead one-year contracts of fixed figures based on the tender level that you offer them.

Our Tender Levels for this season
No Tender = no potential draft pick compensation = $0
Low Tender = potential original round draft pick compensation = $1.10 mil
Mid Tender = potential 1st round draft pick compensation = $2.39 mil
High Tender = potential 1st + 3rd round draft pick compensation = $3.18 mil

Now, the mentioning of draft pick compensation there is only applicable if another team attempts to sign your player. It has no bearing on this first phase of RFA. It wouldn't make much sense if you had to give up draft picks to sign your own player now would it? Newcomers and people who don't have a good memory are certainly free to ask me what round a player was drafted in if that affects their tender level.

That being said, you might want to keep in mind about that draft pick compensation when you determine what tender to offer your player. If you think highly of your player, you might want to offer the highest tender to deter other teams from attempting to sign them. If you don't consider a player to be a part of your future plans, you might want to offer the low tender so that they barely count against your cap space and you could end up even getting draft pick compensation if someone else wants him.

A word of advice from me: The full monetary amount attached to the tenders is NOT GUARANTEED and in many cases is less than what they would make on the open market, so there is essentially 0 risk to offering all of your players a tender unless you personally hate them with a passion.

You can also engage trade talks with other teams so that you can prearrange a trade that if X player is not signed by another team, you will trade them to Y team for Z compensation that might be lower than what Y team would have had to give up to sign them during RFA. In this scenario, you might want to offer the highest tender level to deter the maximum amount of teams from disrupting the trade.

RFA Rules

1. I will privately contact every user and inform them of their RFAs and the tender levels. If you dont have any RFAs, then you wont be notified.

2. Users will have three days to inform me which players they wish to sign and at what level.

3. I will publicly reveal all RFAs from user and A.I. teams that can be signed by other teams (AKA were offered a tender) plus their tender levels and the base kind of deal they are looking for.

4. I will give users five days to decide any action, if any, they wish to take. If they do wish to take further action, they will PM me.

Now by "any action you wish to take," I mean that everyone has an opportunity to attempt to sign RFAs from other teams. You might see some sticker shock but keep in mind that some positions are more expensive (WRs, DTs, QBs) than others (OLBs, Cs, TEs) relative to their overall rating. An 80 WR will usually be more expensive than a 90 C, and that's just how things are

5. If a team attempts to sign another teams RFA, then the user who owns the RFAs rights will have three days to decide whether or not to match the offer.

The deadline for the first phase (encompassing rule #s 1 + 2) will be Friday, April 16th at Noon ET . As always, do not hesitate to ask me any questions.

All users should have received a PM containing your RFAs. I think every team did receive one, but if you didn't, it is because you have no RFAs this season and thus have nothing to do for the first phase of RFA.

In case people weren't aware, I have a spreadsheet that tracks draft prospects OVR process through the years. If you click the 2016 tab then all the players in yellow are potential RFAs if they were offered their default years on and weren't cut/extended.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Hd7lQcU2_bECw_12qH7aMQVq0qraKN4z5gPGYOl38OU/edit?usp=drivesdk

As a sidenote. If anyone needs an extra 1st or 3rd for RFA purposes, I'm open to offers. I probably don't have the cap space to participate in RFA myself.

RFA Phase 2

The following posts will contain a list of all RFAs, sorted by team, that were offered tenders by their team during the first phase. Each player will have in parenthesis the draft pick compensation required to sign (not simply offer but actually sign) them as well as the default deal that they are looking for to the side.

In order to even submit an offer to a player, you must have the draft picks on hand. Early has the NFL Draft order, which includes any draft pick ownership changes based on previous trades. There have been a few trades since, so keep those in mind for those affected. You should also keep in mind that if you own multiple picks in a round, signing an RFA will have you lose the worst of how ever many picks you have. For example, let's say the Orcas try to sign Bengals DE Ezekiel Ansah. They own the 10th and 11th picks in the 2nd round. Should Ansah accept their offer and the Bengals elect not to match their offer in the third phase, the Orcas will end up giving the Bengals the 11th pick in the 2nd round (43rd overall).

Going back to the deals in question, these deals are for the other 31 teams in the league. The team who first offered the tender is stuck with the 1 year deal unless a team submits an offer during this phase. You can also offer them a long term deal later on in the offseason as well as any time during the pre, regular, and postseason, but what's important right now is that you understand that you can do nothing about your own RFAs at this moment.

If you do wish to submit an offer to an RFA from another team, the deal mentioned is not the exact deal that you have to offer them. You are free to mess with the years, total money, and/or guaranteed money. As a word of caution though, unless you are trying some bizarre psychological attack to where you offer a deal that would devastate a team financially but would be practically forced to accept, you will want to submit an offer that would ultimately net you the player you seek. Not only that, but you are in essence competing with 30 other teams for the right to simply sign an RFA. If you skimp out on any combination of years, total money, and guaranteed money, you are decreasing, sometimes substantially, the odds that you will get the player.

If you do submit a custom offer, use the base deal as a benchmark. Using Bears C Bobby Crosby, he is asking for a 3 / $8.71 mil / $1.62 mil contract. Dividing the latter two figures by the years, you find out that he is asking for an average cap hit of $2.90 mil (8.71 / 3) and annual bonus of $540k mil (1.62 / 3).

I hope that everyone understands the slash line that I explained earlier in the topic, but if not, do not hesitate to ask any questions. You can direct them to me via PM, through the topic, or Discord.

Do not feel compelled to be active in this phase if you don't want to. While most users do not, several do as well as the AI, so it isn't as if nothing happens.

Trade time!

Bears receive:
Steelers 1st round pick (19th overall)
TE O.J. Howard (78 overall, 23 years old)
Steelers S16 7th round pick

Steelers receive:
Bears 2nd round pick (38th overall)
Bears 4th round pick (102nd overall)
Bears S16 2nd round pick

The Steelers incur a $450k cap hit to shed $3.24 mil in cap space

Bears assume a $2.79 mil cap hit

After trading away their first round pick for QB Teddy Bridgewater, they use several picks in the 2nd-4th rounds across the next two drafts to get back into the first to use on either an RFA or more talent in the draft for a rebuilding team. They also add to the TE room after the inadequate duo of Jermaine Gresham and Ryan Graham combined for the third fewest receiving yards at the position in the league.

Though they acquired more picks than they gave up that threaten this, the Steelers at the very least gain immediate cap space. They also felt that with the way their roster is currently constructed, any player selected at 19 would not have much of an impact their rookie season. Howard was a draft regret, so they can move on from that.

Both parties exhibited that they understood what each team was giving up and receiving, the financial impact, the past history of the player involved, and what both parties hoped to achieve.

This trade is now official.

For anyone who cares, I updated the non draft related tabs to be accurate too. So you can kind of see where an OVR stacks up against the rest of the league at each position.

League is still pretty awful at CB but it's at least showing a resurgence.

Fullback is going to fall off a cliff soon too. Gone from like having 20+ 99 FBs to having 10. And there's a massive gulf of nothingness in that 80-89 range.

Phase 2 of Restricted Free Agency has ended

For Phase 3, I will notify any users whose RFAs they offered a tender to were signed to a contract by another team. Those users will have until 11:59 PM ET on Saturday, April 24th to decide if they wish to match the contract or let them sign with the other team for draft pick compensation. Should all teams notify me before the deadline, then we will begin the next offseason event sooner.

Trade to announce

Wildcats receive:
Bears 2nd round pick (38th overall)
Steelers 6th round pick (179th overall)

Steelers receive:
HB Christian McCaffrey (87 overall, 23 years old)

The Wildcats incur a $2.68 mil cap penalty to shed a $7.11 mil cap hit

The Steelers assume a $5.77 mil cap hit

HBs are notoriously slow to begin their career. Relative to the rest of the league, McCaffrey had a below average season as a rookie with a 3.9 YPC and 4 fumbles, but as far as rookies go, it was decent with 1379 total yards and 8 TDs. His sophomore season though was disappointing as his YPC went down and fumbling rate increased as he shared starting duties. The Wildcats have decided to cut ties with their S13 first round pick and get back a high second and a Day 3 lottery ticket.

The Steelers were not prepared to lose Jamario Thomas to retirement, so instead of trotting out former 1st rounder Jay Ajayi or go after a free agent, they decided to use a second round pick to acquire a young, highly rated bit of a reclamation project to place in a HB-friendly system that they can cut ties with at any time without any financial ramifications.

Both parties understood what each time was receiving and giving up, the financial ramifications, McCaffrey's past history, and what each time hoped to achieve. This trade is now official.

RFA Phase 3 results

- The Bears sign Dolphins OT Andrew Donnal to a 5 year contract. The Dolphins elect not to match and receive the Bears 3rd round pick.
- The Browns sign Rams DT Will Sutton to a 4 year contract. The Rams elect not to match and receive the Browns 1st round pick.
- The Cowboys sign Bears WR Adam Thielen to a 3 year contract. The Bears elect not to match and receive the Cowboys 3rd round pick.
- The Giants sign Bills QB Tom Henley to a 5 year contract. The Bills elect not to match and receive the Pioneers 5th round pick.
- The Giants sign Steelers FS Tre Boston to a 3 year contract. The Steelers elect not to match and receive the Steelers 4th round pick.
- The Orcas sign Broncos OLB Jordan Jenkins to a 5 year contract. The Broncos elect to match the contract.
- The Orcas sign Steelers DE Angelo McDowell to a 6 year contract. The Steelers elect not to match and receive the Orcas 4th round pick.
- The Panthers sign Bengals DE Ezekiel Ansah to a 4 year contract. The Bengals elect not to match and receive the Panthers 2nd round pick.
- The Panthers sign Browns CB Justin Gilbert to a 5 year contract. The Browns elect not to match and receive the Panthers 3rd round pick.
- The Panthers sign Pioneers HB James White to a 5 year contract. The Pioneers elect not to match and receive the Panthers 4th round pick.
- The Pioneers sign Dolphins OLB Jatavis Brown to a 5 year contract. The Dolphins elect not to match and receive the Pioneers 1st round pick.
- The Seahawks sign Dolphins MLB Kwame Castorani to a 3 year contract. The Dolphins elect not to match and receive the Seahawks 3rd round pick.
- The Seahawks sign Steelers SS Eric Murray to a 4 year contract. The Steelers elect not to match and receive the Seahawks 4th round pick.

I realized after the fact that I had made an error regarding Tom Henley's original round compensation. It was actually a 6th, and the Giants do not own a 6th. Luckily, the pick that would have given up versus the pick that my error would have them give up were separated by just four spots, so I ended up trading Henley to the Giants for the Pioneers 5th and re-signed Henley while with the Giants to a similar deal to what he was to be signed to in RFA.

Unrestricted Free Agents (AKA Signing Your Remaining Free Agents)

Any player of yours whose contract expired and was not part of the previous event will be included here. This is an extremely straightforward event. You either sign or you do not sign players, Those you do stay on your team, those who don't enter the free agent pool.

When you receive the PM with your slash lines, remember that those are not the deals you have to sign them to. With a few exceptions that I will lay out, you can sign anyone (pending the age/max length rule) to deals 1-7 years in length. If you wish to give a player a custom offer, I might be available to do live signings the new few days. Otherwise, we can bounce PMs off of each other for a while (remember that there is a deadline though and delay in response could be a day or longer). If you wish to offer someone a deal of a different length but do no want to bother with the financials, you can merely say you want to give X player the default deal for Y years.

There are only two wrinkles for this event. One is that a few players might hold out for better deals. I can confirm that two users have a holdout. What happens is that I will isolate them in the PM and tell you their base deal. If you elect not to sign them, they will stay on your team without playing a down for you until you trade them, release them, or give into their contract demands. Keep in mind that any guaranteed money still left on their contract (annual bonus) is transferred over to the new contract.

The second wrinkle is that some players hate your team to where they will only sign via the franchise tag, which is a one year deal that pays them the average of the Top 5 salaries at their position or 120% of what they made last season, whichever is higher. I will isolate those players and also tell you how much money that comes out to as of this moment. The franchise tag has rarely been used, so while I am not expecting anyone will use it, you never know.

For those who don't remember, the age/max length rule is that you can't sign a player to a longer contract if it will take them past their age-34 season. You can however sign a player through their age-34 season if it was already included in their default contract. For example, if a 33-year-old player asks for a 3 year contract, you can sign him to that deal because it was part of the default deal. You cannot sign them to a 4+ year contract though.

Also remember that sign-and-trades are not allowed. Players signed to 1 year contracts are ineligible to be traded (RFAs signed via tenders are exempt from this rule). Players signed to multi-year contracts are ineligible to be traded until Week 9 of the regular season.

Signing Your UFAs Rules

1. I will PM everyone their UFAs and the slash line (length/total/signing bonus) of their desired deal. I will also include and isolate any players who are either holding out or hate your team to where they will only sign with you if you place the franchise tag on them.

2. You will PM me back with the following format (using two players from my team as an example)

Re-signing:
C Dimitrius Massey - 3 / $6.51 mil / $1.14 mil
or
C Dimitrius Massey - 2 year default

Franchise Tag:
Nobody

Not re-signing:
QB Matt Ryan

The deadline for signing your UFAs will be Monday, May 10th at Noon ET

Trade #1

Colts receive:
G Jack Mewhort (80 overall, 26 years old)

Seahawks receive:
CB Jason McCourty (82, 33)

Colts will incur a $670k cap penalty to turn a $5.36 mil cap hit into a $1.10 mil cap hit

Seahawks will trade a $1.10 mil cap hit into a $4.69 mil cap hit

The Colts are really up against the cap. Even after trading away their high picks this season, they still need to navigate the cap in order to fulfill their roster obligations. After finding no takers or at least no package that they liked for McCourty, they decided to go after much needed interior OL depth where the untested Mewhort (4 career games in three seasons) could theoretically compete for a starting G job.

Mewhort was the lowest rated interior OL on the Seahawks, which is why he never really played for them, and they desperately need defensive help, so giving up a depth piece like Mewhort for a rental like McCourty makes sense for them, and they have an absurd amount of cap space so the roughly $3.5 mil additional cap cost is nothing to them.

The Colts understood the parameters of the trade, the financial impact, Mewhort's (non-existent) history, and what they hoped to achieve from the trade.

This trade is now official.

Trade #2

Bears receive:
Panthers 3rd round pick (67th overall)

Browns receive:
CB Janoris Jenkins (80 overall, 28 years old)

The Bears will incur a $470k cap hit to shed a $6.04 mil cap hit.

The Browns will assume a $5.57 mil cap hit.

The Bears are in need of cap space after an earlier trade and find some of their free agents and to-be-selected rookies to be more important than the former #2 overall pick in Jenkins. They also fear that he could dip into the 70s if he and their defense doesn't bounce back to the levels of S13, so selling high here was a potentially prudent choice.

The Browns lost almost their entire CB room to retirement and RFA, so using a pick they received from losing a CB in RFA, they put to use to by getting an upgrade with Jenkins in hopes that his takeaway nature fits in with the Browns D.

Both teams demonstrated that they understood what each party was receiving and giving up, the financial impact, Jenkins' past history, and what each team hopes to achieve.

This trade is now official.

Trade #3

Giants receive:
OT Trent Brown (81 overall, 25 years old)
Colts 3rd round pick (75th overall)

Orcas receive:
Pioneers 2nd round pick (64th overall)
Pioneers 3rd round pick (96th overall)

The Giants will assume a $1.10 mil cap hit

The Orcas will shed a $1.10 mil cap hit

The Giants were seeking to shed draft picks and acquire an OT, and they kill two birds with one stone. Brown and his career 70 blocks vs 7 sacks allowed could be in the mix to be a starting OT next season. Being on his RFA tender, it helps out the Giants with potential cap space woes with their list of UFAs and lots of high and mid-round draft picks.

The Orcas, under new management, wish to aggressively change the team as a whole but specifically the offense and its depth. Brown didn't have a clear path to a starting job in the near future with four 90+ OL under contract for at least two more seasons, so he was really just a luxury on this team and got back decent value for him with the final pick of the third round and a small trade up back into the 2nd round, giving them six Top 100 picks.

Both parties understood what each team was giving up and receiving, the financial impact, Brown's past history, and what each team hoped to achieve.

This trade is now official.
