The hilarious part is that by all accounts Bernie was going to play nice and vote to confirm her. Manchin is the one that effectively tanked Neera.

But because resistance libs are braindead mongloids on the level of Trumpers, they blame Sanders for Tanden's nomination failure.

Sheesh Dems

For what little it's worth, I've seen some claims saying that the Democrats have to do this to meet the requirements for reconciliation. But yeah, this is an awful idea and they're going to end up pissing off a lot of people. It's disgusting that a few "moderate" Dems are forcing the rest of the party to go along with crap like this just to keep up the filibuster around. I hope they're happy in 2025 when kneecapping the Democrats leads to total GOP control of government with a filibuster-proof Senate majority.

This is kind of pathetic how they keep finding new lows to what should be the easiest, no-brainer thing to push through.

Why not reform this to reflect 2020 and not 2019 too?

Like fuck. Just give people money. Just fucking do it. You're going to give a ton of companies money they don't need--just give it to people who need it. This is so simple. You threw away the minimum wage in this, and then you go ahead and give people LESS money. How do you somehow make things WORSE?

Also the $1400 + $600 people are probably the grossest democrats out there. The fact that anyone actually parades that around is beyond pathetic and just shows what boot licking, braindead morons they are, and they're going to be the ones treating people like idiots when election time comes around, because it's not about semantics. It's about giving people money to live during a pandemic, not about a "well actually" argument. Nobody cares about "well actually". Just give people money to live. It's that easy, and they just keep walking back reasons to allow people to have money to live better lives during a pandemic and past it.

I expected Biden to disappoint and not deliver, but somehow he continues to exceed my expectations. Just completely pitiful from him and the Senate right now.

This is just such a stupid move by Senate Dems. The bill has 75% support nationwide and the checks are the most popular part of it. What do? Reduce eligibility?

Hopefully the House stands firm and fights for this in conference but if the handful of Senate D ~moderates~ stand firm on this they might not be able to win this fight.

Also GOP looking to pull stall tactics on this bill by apparently planning to force the clerk to read the full text of the bill instead of letting the standard operating procedure of dispensing with it via unanimous consent instead. I don't think it will meaningfully affect the timetable (but still likely to take up hours) but it's just so petty.

See, that last part is what really annoys me about Manchin. The only way is doesn't lose in his next election is if he decides to retire instead of running again. What does he have to gain from blocking everything? At least Sinema can claim this stuff could help her keep her seat. (Though that's not a great argument when the other AZ senator seems to disagree.)

Not only is it stupid, but I cant imagine it saves them much money. Its still full payment to everyone making 75k or less. It was already nothing for people making 100k or more.

So you have this incredibly narrow window youre targeting in an effort to reduce the cost for the bill. There isnt enough of a population here to make a dent in the overall price of the package, so you wind up paying less people than all previous stimulus packages in order to save a trivial amount of cash. It is so stupid from an optics standpoint, and you gain literally nothing for it. The people opposed to this arent going to care youre saving a sliver of the money you were going to ask for.

For me it doesn't even go there. It's just an unbelievable own goal when you concoct a situation where more people got relief under Trump than Biden. How do you let that happen? That's why I'm clinging to the hope that public blowback comes hard and these "moderates" cave in time for the House to jettison this stupidity from the bill in conference but honestly I'm feeling more pessimistic now than I have in a while.

Also we need to stop claiming the missing $600 is some sort of savior.

$3200 or $3800 both are vastly inadequate amounts to survive through a pandemic.

None of these checks have ever been anything but a bribe for political support.

The unemployment boost and small business assistance have been the most important parts of all the stimulus bills.

it is fine to be upset at the loss of free money, it sucks, but dont pretend it is something it isnt.

But to elaborate.

People are desperately saying "GIVE THE PEOPLE MORE". Nobody is treating $1400 like it is anything but an "at least this is SOMETHING" kind of measure.

We know politicians are scumbags and assholes and beholden to anything BUT helping the people who vote for them.

We know that UBI is what we should be getting but our government is pathetic.

But saying "well we helped unemployment and small business, but damn shame about the other thing people care about more" is just more nonsense. It's outrageous they can't give people all of that. Stop treating it like it's anything other than fucking outrageous and give it "yeah buts" because it's complete absurdity that people shouldn't accept.
