I've only seen the first 2 Promised Neverland S2 episodes so far, which seemed pretty straightforward as an adaptation....but am being told they've covered 80 chapters since then?

Yeah I just looked into it a little more.
...They skipped over the best arc of the entire manga...like the entire reason I wanted to see this series adapted in the first place. I mean I guess it could be rearanged and they could be getting crazy with, but if they literally just don't do Goldy Pond then this will go down as one of the worst adaptations ever as far as I'm concerned, and Bokurano is a hard nut to crack on that front for me. --- ... It was scheduled to be 11 episodes with an additional recap episode before it aired. Don't think that's super unusual.

Oh, they just wrapped the AotY itself. As predicted Jujutsu Kaisen did a fair bit of sweeping when it probably shouldn't have, including Anime of the Year. I like the show a lot, but still, definitely not.

Well I only watched an episode since Im waiting for it to finish, but the 1 episode I did see was better than any other anime from the year I watched (which was almost nothing really).

I knew I was going to probably be disappointed by the Anime Awards and they somehow managed to be even worse. Like even outside most of the winners, the show itself was just so barebones and basic. I get there's a pandemic and you can't do what you usually do, but they didn't even seem to put the amount of effort that they do each year into this virtual one. Like yea the amount of effort they put in is usually somewhat cringy and over the top, but I sort of appreciated in how silly it was. They didn't even have like, any discussion between various presenters for categories or anything. You could have Zoom'd/streamed some of that!
Also I really enjoy Jujutsu Kaisen, like A LOT, but it should not have even been eligible for AotY, let alone win. The season's not even over! Beastars really got played for its awards, glad it at least won best OP but fuck man. --- You were the cancer, that's all you'll ever be I really messed up this contest, but azuarc gave it a Breath of fresh air ... I kind of agree but I'm still waiting very much on the first shots. I don't think just applying what they're doing with JJK would be the best for Chainsaw. It has a very flat look that might work better with hand drawn backgrounds than the 3D environments they usually use.

Well it's still Sunrise, and it's always been Sunrise producing all the anime. The character designers for both this and Nijigasaki are different from the first two anime.
