I am STRUGGLING to get through this Higurashi episode.

Even knowing how far this franchise has gone vicerally, this is a lot to handle.

Checking some of my notifications from watchers on Twitter before resuming, and I'm seeing people saying they wish this episode had been censored. I can understand why!

Got through it. Parts early on I had to hold out my hand to block out the screen other than subs.

Apparently it WAS censored in Japan? Wild. There's also a tag on Japanese Twitter right now, which translates to #DontForgiveRyukishi2021, though people roughly translating the tweets are implying it's mostly in jest.

Looks like we're finally going to start getting some real answers next week, though.

she wasn't changed, at least from the few livestreams and uploads in the past month

I heard that her previous agency went bankrupt and she got control of the Kizuna Ai IP and started her own company with backing from the parent company that owned her IP and is now in total control of the character

from the few times this drama gets brought up on the Hololive subreddit the people that chime in on her having a different VA are probably the people that watched her during her peak in 2019 when she was being replaced, so they assume the voice they heard was the original (which was actually the replacement) and they never heard her real original voice which is the one that's in control of her channel now

Maybe I'm missing a technicality here, but wouldn't she have been better off joining a big agency?

I just don't think I see much if any Ai anymore in any of these compilations. Maybe it's just how the algorithm is working for me. Pretty much just getting Gura, Watson, Peko, Angie, Subaru, and YubiYubi.

2017/2018 - Kizuna Ai channel started on youtube
2019 Jan to March - she began to peak
2019 April to August - peaking, and company being shady replacing her from June to August booting her from her gaming channel and main channel
2020 - agency handling her gets folded, Kizuna Ai VA gets control of character, Hololive booms and Kizuna Ai is an afterthought
2021 - Kizuna Ai is irrelevant

though I'm guessing she never would have guessed she would fall so low and get overtaken by new vtubers in the past year

she has entered the mainstream popculture in Japan and can get a lot of money from merch so I guess it worked out

Read through Nagatoro this week coz of all the hype and controversy around it.

Loved every second of it! Can't wait!

Nagatoro is a bit of a one trick manga, but I do keep coming back for the trick and stay up to date. I think it will do very well for itself as likely one season hit.

A different overall vibe, but if you want a manga about awkward highschool encounters that does actually evolve and build a progressing narrative, would very, VERY strongly recommend Watamote. Easily one of my favorite ongoing series. It also got an anime, but unfortunately it stopped right when the series actually gets good.

I also don't think there's much in the way of controversy around Nagatoro itself, unless it's people complaining that the creator used to do hardcore 18+ doujins. The series is completely harmless. I think people are just anticipating a new wave of smug anime girl avatars being attached to asshole Twitter accounts, like happened with that other show last year.

So yeah, Horimiya is ABSOLUTELY changing stuff around drastically, cutting tons and adding new scenes, to make it a one season show. It is still excellent, but if you're enjoying it at all I would highly recommend reading the manga either now or once the season ends.

Everything about the production is very good. Cloverworks is killing it. I can absolutely see why people were so excited for this show before release.

There are certain scenes they definitely won't cut or mess with that I can already picture how they will do it in my head perfectly.

The opening and ending themes (especially the OP) are also just incredible, both in visuals and audio. I posted the OP earlier but will do it here for posterity.

If you have it set to display directly linked images automatically, spoiler tagging works for external pictures links, but the recently added direct posting of images to the board does not shake hands with the spoiler tag when you have auto display on.

If it makes you feel better, I assumed this was the case because teh character has been trending on Twitter all day.

Honestly the only thing stopping me from finally going back to where I dropped Titan long long ago is someone to tell me that Ymir didn't actually die off screen and that was a fakeout. I don't even care if it inderectly spoils something to know that. If that is still actually the case then...I dunno, maybe one day I'll pick it up again.
