Death Note, Code Geass and Breaking Bad all made me numb. Nobody has the fucking balls to end it with the good guy winning. AoT is looking like that too.

Nah Eva has a special brand of ending. It's not your typical bad ending.

Like I don't even think of the original series or End as having bad endings myself, but they were very very weird in how they were presented and I completely understand the controvery. (Although I'd be far less kind about the "animation" for the OG series today. Back then I was just enthralled by my first exposure to existential philosophy.)

But they're still not good guys. They are potentially "justified", but that doesn't make them good.

And yes, Light specifically stands out here because "Light was right" is staight up an "avoid this person on the street" situation.

You have to pay more attention to subtext. His primary motivation was he was going to die in a year and he felt pathetic all his life. "I did it for me" is literally what he says at the end. Of course he loved his family and I think the show treated him like he was a bigge villain than he was, but he was not just a guy doing it for his family.

I'll give you Lelouch because bad writing made things happen because oopsie poopsie. Wouldn't it be funny if I said you should kill everyone in Japan??? HIlarious!

Walter didn't get the full appreciation from his family for what he provided. Drugs would have poured in from Mexico with or without his involvement. It's not like he ruled the drug world all over the globe and made everyone into meth addicts. In the end he too did not appreciate the one person that appreciated what he did, and paid for it. But that's the irony of it.

Your sense of morality is very interesting. It seems very divorced from intention and individuality and boils down to just what effect you have on the world? Like if you know other evil people exist you're suddenly not evil anymore because well, other people are doing it! (based just on this one line of course)

This has no basis. Light's characterization from the start was devaluing all human life. He killed the first dude with the truck just because he was kind of a tropey asshole who was hitting on a girl. He didn't care about his family at all. He LOATHED law enforcement for doing their job and took great pleasure in killing Naomi and Raye Penbar. I don't think it was necessary for him to call himself the god of the new world lmao. Power was his motivation. He was an A class student with nothing bad going on but the first thing he does is look at his classmates and go "ugh, these people suck"

I also want to point out that Lelouch wasn't exactly punished at the end because he kinda did it to himself? Like he did the watchman thing of playing the villain so ultimately he took the biggest W.

Oh and thinking about this, I agree. It felt kinda hamfisted when his son found out and was like "you liar omg!" Like I know from a story perspective I'm arguing that Walt didn't do it for the best reasons, but no one else really knew that. If I found out my dad was a big time drug dealer who got our family tons of money my reaction would not be instant condemnation.

Yea I look at it like that. The ends justify the means. I think throughout the entire show the only person that Walter fucked over/killed that I felt sorry for was the guy that got paralyzed. Every other person either deserved what they got or would have ended up dead through their own life choices. Walter was just as much a cog in that drug lord machine as any of those cartel guys. I imagine those people he killed would have done worse to the world than what he did.

He had a very naive sense of morality before his first kill. I don't blame him for it, there really was no way he could have known that the magic notebook was real. He went on a killing spree, all of them criminals. I don't really see a problem with that. I imagine disliking law enforcement wasn't something that was innate to his nature, they were after all trying to arrest him. He saw them as beneath him since he held supreme power of judgement/punishment over criminals that were untouchable. His killing of Penber and fiance were self preservation, can't really blame him there. He did develop a god complex at the end but again, that was a consequence of L/N/M gunning for his life. If he had just ignored L's first provocation and carried on killing only criminals he likely would have just went the rest of his life killing anonymously.

Honestly this is a fascinating stance, I legit never imagined we had someone pro-Light around here.

I can't really put into words how much I disagree (I consider Light a quintessential villain, there are few more evil I can think of that aren't just cartoon characters), but at the same time it's not like I don't understand at ALL.

The idea that good intentions are justification is just...completely absurd, though.

I was wondering why they were starting a whole new arc in Jujutsu Kaisen with only 3 episodes left, but I guess it'll finish in that timeframe

According to Executive Producer Park Seong Hoo, the last 3 episode series composition will take a stance of a movie. That's why these three are going to be little different from the previous ones, since it gives a little bit of horror and thriller vibe unlike shonen-like vibes they've given so far.
