Maybe we should do something about the rich then. Maybe make it so that, instead of raising prices to cover the cost of increased worker wages, they either accept smaller profits, or lower the wages of the people at the top of the company.

Not how demand for products works. I am all for more taxes but you can't force company prices without some seriously terrible externalities

(I just want to throw out there that in situations where tipping is expected, I do still tip 15-20%. I am just not happy about it. I do however avoid tipping scenarios as much as possible. Like I haven't had delivery in years, I'm almost exclusively a carry-out guy)

Now the question is... do you believe that the people arguing for $15/hr minimum wage for tipping jobs are arguing for the removal of tips also? Or do you believe they are arguing for it on top? If you are arguing for it and the removal of tips, then you are arguing to reduce the pays for pretty much every server across the board - and increase in prices. Where as if you are arguing for it plus the tips, then the servers with no college degrees and such are now making more than the vast majority of nurses...

I dont know if Id say vast majority, but yes, nurses should make more.

Also I dont think anyone is saying raise servers wages and BAN tipping, theyre saying itd be nice if employers paid servers their wages and customers could tip if they feel their service deserved it, rather than what we have now wheres its basically compulsory.

I don't mind tipping from a personal standpoint, but we need to move to a system where tipping isn't necessary.

I would rather waiters and bartenders make less money but still enough money than have a society where if they don't get their tips they won't have a living wage.

Will a lot of them who do really good with tips be upset they aren't making the equivilant of $30/hour anymore? Absolutely. But they shouldn't be making $30/hour at the expense of a nationwide minimum wage.

However I am against the idea of banning tipping entirely. If you still WANT to tip, why should anyone stop you? I'm literally in the waiting room of Greatclips while typing this, these people get a standard wage, I'm still going to tip $5.

What needs to be disposed of is a tip being NECESSARY.

There will always be a guilt about having to tip when it's allowed, which just starts the cycle again.

Especially when the pivot will become "I'm not making as much as I used to, so you should still tip me. Perhaps more."

But I will accept getting to a point where businesses start saying that tipping is not necessary.

Tipping is requiring waiting staff to depend on the generosity of a stranger to pay their wages rather than their employer. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't. I was a sever for many years. It's by no means an easy job. Some customers are generous. Others tip things from bible verses to fake money. How well you do depends on how busy the restaurant is, how popular it is, and how generous their customers are. Some nights are good, other nights not so much. Like everyone else, servers have to pay rent. You can look at a few people and say "Hey, they're doing well!" but that's ignoring all the people who struggle to pay rent and make a living. And I don't think we should do that.
