The fact that we've had *two* wholly partisan impeachment proceedings within the last few years -- and many other attempts to start one even before that -- isn't an indictment of Trump, it's an indictment of the partisan politics. The biggest issue is setting a precedent and putting it in the history books that his kind of behaviour is unacceptable for a President and is an impeachable offence. Otherwise this kind of behaviour will be repeated.There are some other minor things like a pension and his ability to run for office.

It's so fucking transparent that zero of Zeus's replies actually address the things Trump is being impeached for. He can't address the merits of the charges. It's just the idea of people going against Trump at all.

It's only a spite move. And a secondary vote -- that likely won't pass anyway -- barring him from office again is irrelevant since he's unlikely to win another primary, let alone another election even if he was interested in running again which presupposes him living long enough to run again.

While not a republican, if I was a republican, I would be seriously pissed and embarresed by Trump and his actions. Impeaching him, and voting later to prevent him from holding office again, protects republicans from the possibility of him doing more harm in the future.

Even if you love Trump and want to have his babies, you have to admit he hasn't been a good president for some/alot of republicans and that many would like to see him never take office again.

Honestly the fact that so many voted for him and still wanted him as president after the last 4 years just shows how insane our two party system is, if nothing else current presidents should still need to run against other republican options to ensure a majority of the party still wants them in office.

He told his supporters to "fight like hell" to make him president or Biden would destroy America/democracy. He knowingly and repeatedly spent two months spreading false information about election fraud. He refused to call the National Guard to control the attack. He refused to condemn the attackers, instead calling them wonderful people who were trying to preserve democracy.

The thing about incitement of violence is you don't get to incite violence, say you're not inciting violence, and have the statements cancel each other out. It's not a fucking math equation. He incited the riots and refused to control them, and saying afterwards that he wants peace is meaningless.

Were going walk down to the Capitol, and were going to cheer on our brave senators, and congressmen and women. Were probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them because youll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.

We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated, lawfully slated. I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.

Stoking the flames and insisting dozens of times that there was election fraud, insisting people go and march on Capitol and demand Congress puts him back in power. I don't care if he uses the word "peacefully" at the very end. He got the crowd angry and riled up and then told them to march on the Capitol. He knew exactly what he was doing. He knew exactly how his supporters would react and it was exactly what he wanted.

His speech should have been a concession, an admission that there was no election fraud and that he lost, with calls for calm and to welcome the new President. Instead he insisted he won by a large margin and told his supporter to demand Congress make that happen.

Trump had his day in court trying to prove the fraud he is so damn sure exists, that didn't work. So what was his next course of action? He riled up his supporters on the day the election results would be fully certified. Dude is basically grasping at nearly every possible straw remaining to maintain his presidency.

I bet if his Twitter account wasn't banned he would likely be calling on military personal or police to rise up and join him in making sure he remains President.

The penalties for treason if Im not mistaken in the US are typically either life imprisonment, or execution.

Donald Trump committed treason in broad daylight.
