"Like George Washington" just seems like a mouthful to me because it has so many mushy syllables in there in a short period of time. "Like Columbus" just has way better mouthfeel.

Well let's see if it's a regional thing. Growing up in Seattle, I only heard Columbus. George Washington is too many syllables!

This is how I remember all the additions:

...you would even say it glows (like a lightbulb)
...used to laugh and call him names (like Pinocchio)
...join in any reindeer games (like Monopoly)
...as they shouted out with glee (Yippee!)
...you'll go down in history (like Columbus)

I've heard the Flintstones one before actually. I forgot about it though.

I think it's usage stems from the Flintstones theme song which has a line "They're a page right out of history", which is sang similarly with a similar amount of syllables with emphasis on the word "history".

I get you are trolling as usual anything I say Han but 3 syllables is fine and of course it follows up History which is 3 syllables also.

There's literally no reason to say like pinocchio because the defining feature was his lies and length of nose, not the shininess. There is literally no reason to say monopoly. There is no reason to say george washington. Like what are you even talking about. It's just kids added phrases.

I know they're inherently linked with Rhythm but you're dumbing down how singing works if you need everything to be one for one.

Would you prefer I talk about how in melismatic writing, you would never intentionally extend an "M" sound, and how in good choral practice you only extend vowels, so that "Like Columbus" would be pronounced "Like Colooombus"?

It's a different rhythm unless you add a melisma but nobody is singing two notes for the syllable "um" so therefore the rhythmic movement is different, and the cadence is notably different because, and get this, a dotted quarter note is different from a quarter note paired with an eighth note.

If anybody here is dumbing down singing, it's you by insisting that the two have the same cadence. They do not.
