I always often worry about the side effects with any vaccine or medication. Now its just a matter of who will exactly take it even though I assume its not mandatory?

Theres a few. But theyre just now starting to be widely produced. So itll probably be a few months at least before anybody can just go into their local drug store and get one.

Some of the vaccines do require a second shot. I havent heard anything about vaccines making anyone feel sick though. Some people are more sensitive than others to some of the compounds that go into making and preserving vaccines in general though.

Despite what so many conspiracies would have you believe the vast majority of vaccines are safe and complications from getting any vaccine are very rare.

We have three I think over here in the UK with the highest one been 95% effective and the lowest been 70% effective. It's better than nothing but also won't completely rule out COVID as some folk are allergic to it so can't have it and others simply won't have it. Personally I'll wait until it becomes more common. They are going down the list by age groups anyway so I'll be near the bottom.

It could be at least June or July before most people in the US can get vaccinated, thanks to Trump.

https://www.nbcnews.com/science/science-news/trump-administration-passed-chance-lock-more-pfizer-vaccine-doses-n1250357?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot

A former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration and a member of Pfizers board of directors said Tuesday that President Donald Trumps administration declined to secure millions of additional doses of Pfizer and BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine when it had the chance.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC that the White House declined multiple offers from Pfizer to strike a deal on more vaccines for the second quarter of 2021. Gottliebs statements came after The New York Times and The Associated Press reported that the Trump administration months ago did not lock in the chance to purchase millions of additional doses of Pfizers vaccine, which has shown to be highly effective against Covid-19.

That decision could delay the delivery of a second batch of doses until Pfizer fulfills other international contracts.

Pfizer has gone ahead and entered into agreement with other countries to sell them some of that vaccine in the second quarter of 2021, Gottlieb told CNBC.

Under its contract with Pfizer, the Trump administration committed to buy an initial 100 million doses, with an option to purchase as many as five times more.

But this summer, the White House opted not to lock in an additional 100 million doses for delivery in the second quarter of 2021, according to people who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly.

Coronaviruses are a type of respiratory disease--there have been other iterations in the past and there has been ongoing vaccine research for many years. In really simple terms they just had to adapt it to this particular strain. They weren't starting from square one.

There was but then SARS blew over and people being people the development of a vaccine more or less halted because we don't like spending money on preventative health measures. Luckily we were able to pick up that research and that's why we have a covid-19 vaccine so quickly. That and international motivation.

Due to the lack of availability for the vast majority of the population early on the whole uncertainty will have largely gone away because those who come in contact with the disease the most will have taken the vaccine and documented any potential remaining undetected side effects.

so unless you are a doctor nurse or first responder the vaccine isnt even an option for you, and by the time it becomes available more and more people will have taken it from the various forms form diff companies.

due to the unique nature of the circumstances the problem of vaccine fears will work itself out by itself.

You are applying "authority" to anything you see fit. Doctors!!! They are authority. Doctors carry much less authority than politicians, as can be evidenced by the varying responses to COVID.

I agree with you and Carl Sagan that we should not trust authority, but should trust the respective experts in their fields.

Is this lady an 'expert' or is she 'authority'? I would consider her an expert.

This is basically my stance on it. I'm skeptical because of how quickly the vaccine has been railroaded through the usual steps, but by the time I even have the option of taking it, vastly more people will have taken it than ever would in a normal vaccine trial and I won't need to be skeptical anymore. Relying on vulnerable people and front-line workers to test it for me like that isn't particularly ethical, but I don't really have much choice with how the whole situation is going to play out. All I can do is roll with it.

"He's right because he's a doctor" is fallacious, because it relies entirely on his status as an authority figure to validate his opinion. "He's more credible than you because he's spent decades studying this matter and publishing works on it which any of us can read while you saw a youtube video once" is not fallacious. That's just the basic concept of evaluating sources before citing them.

Doctors and epidemiologists are not always right, but the only alternative we have to listening to them is to make it all up ourselves, and that's just dumb. The best option we have is to listen to them and trust that they're operating based on the best available data until they are found not to be.

Here is an article that provides some healthy scepticism that you may find interesting. That being said, the studies still indicate the various vaccines as safe and effective. I apologize again if I come across as an ass about this, I just feel quite strongly about it. Cheers.

You can say "we literally have nothing until we start giving to people the vaccine" but we HAVE literally done SOMEthing and people HAVE been given the vaccine in studies, dating back MANY months.
