I am officially a Covid doomer. I think it's never going away until offenders are killed by it. I don't think we'll have a vaccine for a while. My only hope is that people who are intelligent aren't harmed. I don't give a single shit about people who pretend it's a hoax.

how many of the deaths are from people who died from something unrelated?

You know, now that you said it first I have to agree. Let it run its course and clear out all the people who choose to be annoying. I hope after this they put a permanent 14-day quarantine in place for anyone coming from Mainland China. Here's the thing though - there are people like that. Masks are ONLY useful if you're in close proximity and sick. Otherwise just a fashion statement. So if someone is purposefully going out to antagonize those without a mask then why should anyone be surprised if they get clunked? Plus if they're as paranoid as they sound why are they going near this person to begin with? There's no logic from them as we see here.

It wont stop overnight. But once we have a vaccine readily available we can start making some headway against it

We beat smallpox and we beat polio and theres a lot that we know now that we didnt know back then. Its gonna take some time though. It could still be a couple years before things start to feel normal again

Few, if any. Cases are tracked on a per-person basis, not a per-test basis, presuming a remotely competent public health infrastructure.

In the sense of "they died in a car crash but then we tested them for covid and they were positive so now they're a covid death"? Virtually none. As much as paranoid anti-maskers would love to believe that every ambulance has some guy waiting with a Covid swab to test every dead person they find, postmortem testing isn't really a thing unless there's reason to suspect Covid was involved. In the sense of "They were covid positive and then they died of bacterial pneumonia"? Probably a non-trivial number, but it's extremely difficult to conclusively say that there was no relation between death of pneumonia and any respiratory comorbidities a person may have, such that counting those deaths as Covid-related is the only sensible way to document them.

Virtually none. When people are hospitalized, the reason for their hospitalization is well documented, and again, a remotely competent public health agency will not cite anything other than that as their reason for being hospitalized. This is, again, presuming that their Covid infection doesn't complicate the primary reason for their hospitalization, since if it does, that absolutely should count as a Covid hospitalization.

I'm not sure why you're so desperate to insist that the statistics are being artificially inflated like this, especially when there's so much reason to believe that the complete opposite is true (I'm sure it's merely a coincidence that case numbers dropped precipitously the day after Trump decided that the CDC was no longer allowed to report them independently).

in the first couple months the news repeatedly said that people who died and had it, were counted as virus c.o.d.

That's really not a particularly high standard of competence. Every test result is personally identifiable (it has to be in order to communicate results), plus already-positive people that are getting retested will have that identified as their reason for being tested.

Furthermore, even if we assume that all numbers are being grossly inflated by clerical errors and the real numbers are, say, a quarter of that (bearing in mind that an assumption of that magnitude is completely baseless and utterly absurd), is that not still a concerning number of infections and deaths? That would still be ~300,000 cases and 65,000 deaths in 8 months, with no sign of slowing down. That's still an enormous number for an infectious disease and absolutely warrants a public response (and, again, there's absolutely no reason to believe the numbers are anywhere close to that low).

As selfish as it sounds, I'm trying to come up with a way to establish documented proof that I wasn't an anti masker or a COVID denier during all this. The shame of being an ignorant, stupid coward during a major historic global pandemic will hang over the heads of anti maskers and COVID deniers for decades.

We're being asked to reduce the number of public engagements we attend, wash our hands, and wear a face mask in public. This isn't fucking hard. Yet anti maskers call these basic hygienic tasks oppressive, because they don't know what oppression means.

Meanwhile in CT, one of the states taking this shit super seriously, the fucking governor just went into quarantine because his staff members kept testing positive for it.
