I bought adjustable dumbbells off a coworker that are 52 pounds each. I had to walk them from my car to my apartment. If I had to guess, the distance might be like half a football field, more or less. The fact that this wiped me out makes me sad. I want to set a goal to get back in shape. I'm thinking maybe of posting each workout I do on the the days that I do them so that way I have a bit of accountability. Even if I only do like 10 push-ups for the day, I'll post it. Anyone want to join me?

I should probably join you, because I need to get back to working out and being healthier myself. But I already know I'm not currently in the right state to actually commit. Godspeed though!

I feel it. I stopped biking regularly back in like March when my school shut down (when I wasn't exactly biking a lot anyway, because winter, but I at least was walking instead), plus I went off my asthma meds for a while due to not havign a doctor to renew the prescription (and now my school insurance is gone so I'm off them again until I can afford them more comfortably), so trying to bike anywhere now is pretty rough. That's compounded by working from home, so I don't even have a regular commute to whip me into shape. It's hard to find the motivation to go out for a quick ride just for the sake of rebuilding my stamina, particularly where going anywhere interesting is pushing my current capabilities.

Yeah I was much more active prior to the pandemic. I was at my best when I was 25 which was 6 years ago. That's what I really want to get back to. I never was one for cardio, but I want to start implementing more of that into my routine now.

Yes! I have some exercise bands. That's about it. I can look up videos on YouTube probably. It's been long enough into the pandemic that there are probably plenty of home workout videos now.

Even push-ups, lunges and squats without weights is a good place to start. There are probably a lot of things you can do with resistance bands.

I've always been terrible at cardio, mostly because of my asthma. Even treated, it's very much exercise-induced (it rarely does anything to me otherwise) and stuff like running very quickly leaves me in very rough respiratory shape. For whatever reason, biking is generally okay, probably because I tend to alternate between bursts of pushing really hard and coasting for a while. If I'm pedalling constantly at a high speed (like in a lower gear on a long hill, or any stationary bike), then it starts to be a problem.

SpeedDemon20 posted...
Yes! But I don't really know what to do.

There was a while when I was bothered by my lack of core strength (biking for long periods was hurting my lower back) and I was playing a lot of DotA, so I made a habit of holding a plank whenever I died until I respawned. That actually did a surprising amount for me (and gave me a seething hatred for Necrophos' ult, especially in late game >.>), for taking no additional time or equipment to do.

Its weird going from 3rd in a triathlon to tired after walking up a flight of stairs.

So I'll join, I have a squat rack and bench in my apartment that I never use. Used it for the first time today. Super light, but still.

The nice thing about being out of shape is the bar is substantially lower.

I would love to have a squat rack available at home. I had a bench but couldn't bring it with me when I moved from my grandmother's house to my apartment. I would like to go back to the gym, but I don't know what that would look like during the pandemic. I guess I gotta start up at home. I have some free weights, a stationary bicycle, and an olympic bar in my small patio.

I know gyms near me are open, don't know what they are like in Chicago though. Honestly, even with the squat rack in my apartment I still kind of want to go to the gym. There is just something to actually going somewhere to workout. I hate that my entire life from work to sleep takes place in my apartment.

I've had a slight pain in my knee for some time and I haven't been exercising as much lately. Running is my favorite but I'm afraid it'll make my knee feel worse so I just go for long walks instead. I don't have any weights but I guess I can do calisthenics or get a resistance band. The other problem is time since I've been working a ton of overtime all year.

Guys, do we have days designated for specific parts? What days do we rest? Are we skipping leg day?

I wanted to get in better shape this year. Unfortunately, this year is 2020.

I think people should get a free pass for letting themselves go a little this year. Those who actually got in shape are the true MVP's.

That sucks about the running. Do you like biking? It's a little easier on the knees.

You can make a schedule if you want. It usually helps to do that. I'm probably gonna set a small goal and just try to work out at least twice this week. Also, never skip leg day.

I don't think there is ever an excuse for getting lazy. There is always a way to exercise. We just like to give ourselves excuses. Me included.

The diet is the hardest part for me. I eat like crap. Luckily I'm naturally skinny. When I was in pretty good shape, I could see my abs despite my diet. Not because I was skinny, but because I actually had put on muscle. I still have a picture of me from then. I remember Charles from diso was one of the ones who complimented me when I posted it on ig. Made me feel good since he's a bodybuilder. haha.

I do, but I haven't owned a bike in years. I think that'd be a good alternative. Too bad it's getting colder out though haha

I got a stationary bike recently. They're not that expensive. Although, biking outside is probably more enjoyable.

I did some warm-up stretches and then 20 push-ups. I gotta go to bed now. I think I need to cut a game out of my routine. I just don't have time to do other things otherwise. If I cut Starcraft 2 out, I'll get about half an hour. If I cut out Dota 2, I'll get like 2 hours... but I love that game.

I have a hard time lifting 50 pound horse food bags. It doesnt help that the bags are slippery and the food is compacted into a brick (I have to loosen it every time.) I bet I could run these bags over with our big pickup and it wouldnt loosen the food at all.

I think the topic will help. I don't really know what I'm doing in terms of creating a routine but I can at least try to motivate others lol.

My job encourages us to follow this 'Planksgiving' schedule where you do a variety of planks everyday for the month. At the end, you turn in your calendar for a shot at winning a raffle. I am sure 99% of employees are gonna ignore it and just turn in the calendars but I'm gonna try to follow it!

i got a smart trainer a couple of weeks ago since i'm not cycling to work anymore + the area I live in now doesn't really have much room for high intensity bike riding. it's pretty good, been trying to do 100km a week which is piss easy at the moment cause i have nowhere else to go.

anyone on zwift?

if anyone is running or cycling on strava i'll help to like your activities ;)
