tough to say. she did release an album this year and her latest single - "the 1" made it to #4 on billboard so she's still relevant enough, i'd say. maybe she's not as popular with the tiktok kids but those are probably too young to vote anyway?

(sidenote: funny how said single didn't make it further than #99 in the singles top 100 in my country. i try to somewhat follow pop music and i didn't even know it came out until just now!).

Thankfully, with neither Collins nor Loeffler backing down, and almost even split between them in polling, and such an absurd number of early votes already cast, I'm honestly not too worried a out Warnock's chances.

I'm thinking the fact that they're attempting to roll out specifically another laptop is causing a lot of the previously interested public to lose interest in these attempts.

I wonder how much Trump refusing to concede would help Democrats in the Georgia Senate runoff election(s). Opposing Trump is the biggest motivator for Democratic voters this year, after all. If Trump clearly loses to Biden and Senate control comes down to the Georgia runoff election, it might be better for the GOP to unite against whatever insanity Trump tries to pull. (They probably won't, but they should.)

See all these pickup trucks with Trump flags? They were sitting along I-35, waiting to ambush the Biden/Harris campaign bus as it traveled from San Antonio to Austin. These Trump supporters, many of whom were armed, surrounded the bus on the interstate and attempted to drive it off the road. They outnumbered police 50-1, and they ended up hitting a staffers car. The police refused to help. When I flagged down one officer, he said his hands were tied: not my jurisdiction. He was wearing a blue stripe bandana. Understandably, though nobody was hurt, the rest of the tour was cancelled.

Went to try and early vote but I'm pretty sure the line was longer than I would have gotten just showing up at my polling place early on election day. At least in 2018 which is my only experience here there was literally no line. I'm sure it's worse in presidential election years but I'd be shocked if it changed from no line to anything close to what I saw today. Going today to the early voting place I probably would have been there for more than an hour waiting outside and there was no social distancing whatsoever.

(Worth mentioning the way it works here is that there's only one place in the county to do early voting and I live in a major city, whereas on election day there's a much larger number of polling places)

Edit: Since I didn't actually make it clear my decision was to not early vote and to take my chances on election day, though tbh if it's just as bad I would rather not vote than put my health at risk which I definitely feel I would have been today.

If people are being scared off from voting because the polls are being run in ways that come across as unsafe, that's suppression. It may be unintentional, though at any rate it isn't ideal. The onus shouldn't be on the voters on being more diligent as to how they vote.

I'd completely understand if people had apprehensions about voting by mail. There's simply greater opportunity for mistakes and fuckery.

Here in NV, my parents both decided to vote by mail and needed to sign their ballot. A couple days after dropping said ballots at the polling place, they both received emails stating their signatures didn't match what the state had on record, despite both of them carefully replicating their drivers license signatures (which is what the state has on record) to the best of their abilities.

Based on my limited experience, it certainly seems like an imperfect system, which is why I voted early in-person. But it was easy for me to do so, with numerous voting places within a ten minute drive. If you live in an area where there's like one early voting place per city/county, I'd definitely call that voter suppression - blatant and fucked up voter suppression, at that.

So based on the discussions on similar rulings we had the other day...this should fail if it gets to the Supreme Court. Roberts keeps siding with state jurisdiction over federal, and the thread notes the state Supreme Court already rejected shutting it down. Though not a hard ruling so...that's IF Roberts remains consistent and judges these as similar circumstances, and IF this makes it to the SC in time and IF ACB is not seated by then, and also if my interpretation is correct so. Fuck this, basically.

So what happens if this guy rules to throw out the ballots on Monday or Tuesday without saying those ballots should be kept/segregated? How quickly would the appellate court be able to throw up a stay to prevent the ballots from being discarded?

(FWIW I would be extremely surprised if SCOTUS upheld this regardless because it would be so fucking blatant, but it might not matter if my above fears are valid)

She already was.

She's sat out the few voting challenges that have come to the court in the past few days but that's been her decision to do so. She could have joined in on any of them (well any brought after the confirmation vote to my knowledge but these are being sent to and answered by SCOTUS quickly) after the confirmation vote.

Yeah, that's what I meant, and I don't expect her self-imposed recusal to hold. I think it was a lot of plausible deniability play, especially because these issues had already reached the court by the time she was confirmed and so she was presumably not around to hear them initially.

Basically yes I think it was her setup to avoid alarm bells going off until this timing crunch so close to the election. When something akin to what LOTM is saying can also plausibly happen as a "mistake." Hope I'm wrong!

Ah, I see, carry on then. I tend to agree she would participate in any election day-and-on challenges (unless maybe it's clear there's 5+ votes to shut it down in which case maybe she stays recused for optics)

As for the sheer level of political intimidation being perpetuated against voters, and let's be honest - Biden voters (and the campaign), is fucking disgusting and another sign of how free and fair democracy is basically sitting on a knife's edge at this point. "cool" place for America to be in.

And yeah, while admittedly NY is... not likely to be the site of any of these legal challenges to put it mildly... the sickening attempts by Republicans to have these votes thrown out is exactly why I decided months ago I would vote in-person on Election Day and if that puts my health at a higher risk, so fucking be it.

I absolutely feel for the hundreds of thousands (if not millions at this point) who have legally cast ballots and are now facing either last minute (or will be facing after-the-fact) bullshit to have their voices and votes discarded. This is increasingly not feeling like a democracy.

While I understand the anxiety around mail in and drop off voting, I really don't think there would have been any issue with in person physical early voting. I can't even imagine what kind of bullshit they could try to come up with for that.

Similar to what pyre said (though not quite as bad as "only one in the county"), there are far, far fewer early voting locations here than on election day to the point where I'd actually expect there to be less people at my regular polling place on election day.
