Seems like the obvious choice unless I'm missing something? Granted, I guess unlimited free refills could make a fortune as well. And the battery option as well?

Although teleportation is also tempting, depending on how it's performed.

The only one that is a contender is time travel but it's too vague. I mean, literally anything will change the future. Now perhaps it means you can get a perfect clone of one object? In that case it's basically just money and teleporting wins.

You guys are not thinking about what would help humanity the most as well.

Teleporting certainly will get you infinite money and resources, but, it also allows you to literally teleport anywhere, including other planets, and there is no restriction listed on what you can bring (at least what your wearing). If you can actually bring other people, you could literally be the thing that enables humanity to spread out into the stars.

Technically telporting faster than light speed (instant travel up to a light year away), could enable you to actually travel back in time (the explanation would take forever, but it's true). And there would be no limit (you wouldn't be able to do the reverse though, so you'd have to be careful).

Anyway with teleportation depending on the limitations, you not only would have infinite money/resources, but you would have the ability to travel around easily quickly, anywhere you want, and the ability to help the human race (and possibly save it).

Money is nice, but a ton of the other ones can get you that in the right situation. The device that lets you get any currency in a video game gives infinite money as well (as many video games just use straight up cash), but there are magical forms of currency or high tech sci fi forms (or say Spice.....in a dune video game) that you could obtain as well, so that is WAY better than just knowing the outcome of any bet (doesn't mean you'll win any bet, just you know the outcome, so if you say, bet that you won't die jumping off a cliff, you know you'll lose, even if you try like 20 different places to jump, and just cause you do find one that you will win, doesn'tmean you will WANT to be alive after it).

Finally the device that lets you play any game as a VR game, depending on how good the VR is, could be insanely awesome (if far more selfish), since you could basically explore tons of worlds where magic works, or futuristic science works, you could go INTO shadowrun and play as any character/gender etc, and it would all be in VR. So if that VR was actually really lifelike, it would probably be the totally best and most awesome of the options personally (especially if it felt like real life, but if you die, it's just game over and you can play it again or another game).

I voted for Teleportation sadly as a knee jerk as it seemed like the best over all for humanity, but you know what, fuck humanity, I'm going for the VR option or maybe....the video game currency option (depends on limitations on both). Humanity can sort itself out.

Also, I mean, souls are a currency in demon souls etc, and in many games the currency can be used to level up etc. If you could use the souls to level yourself up, that would be pretty amazing as well. There are so many currencies that do amazing things in various games, and honestly anything that you trade for something is technically a currency, so sometimes magical items are currency as well.

You could basically be a god, heck, I'm sure there is a currency in some video game that lets you teleport lol. Spice lets you see the future, souls let you upgrade stats etc, but even so, I don't know if I could resist the VR option tbh.

Actually yeah now that I think more the bet one is better. You can literally cure all disease within a day and never die. That does actually trump teleporting. "I bet myself 1 cent the cure for cancer is x". "I bet myself 1 cent the first winning lotto number is greater than 5". So determine any bet is actually infinite knowledge, with some tedium to get to the answer, which allows for infinite scientific advancement (that you control even) which for all we know will end up giving you teleportation anyway.

You can't control the bet, only know how it'll turn out.

So, I bet myself 1 cent that the cure for cancer is pizza, you would know you would lose that bet.

It wouldn't make the cure for cancer be pizza.

You could win the lottery though, exactly by doing what you said, only you could do it a bit more (think there is like 50 numbers per ball in the lottery. So you would start with I bet myself 1 cent that the first number if over 25, and then you would know if it was over or under and you would do over or under 12, and then 6, and then 3, and then get it. Do that for each number and you win the lottery.

Though actually there would be no reason to do that at all, much easier/faster ways to get tons of money that wouldn't be as ...public....since you can tell what is going to happen before hand every time.

But yeah, you could figure out things fast, that had a select number of answers using bets like that, but not things like cures for cancer, space travel, teleportation, immortality etc.

Some of the other options could get you all of those things AND unlimited money.

Teleporting. The possibilities are immense if you know what you're going to do with it. On Earth alone you would effectively become God if used right. Your ability to negate any travel time means you'd be able to simply go a lot of places otherwise inaccessable to you. You could visit the top of Mt. Everest in a split second. You could go to the South Pole, the North Pole, and wherever else you WANTED! If you turned towards the criminal think about what you could do with that degree of power as well. Not only could you steal basically anything you wanted you could kill anyone you desired because how the frick are they gonna stop you? You just bypassed all of security to appear at their bedside at 3 A.M. and shot them in the head before disappearing to Botswana. So long as you cover up your identity (not too hard considering you can teleport) you're golden. But if you decide to go positive, just sell your skills to NASA. Do you realize just how valuable even being able to place a tiny, hand-held, science thingy on, say, Pluto would be? They could cut SO much of their budget and even redirecting a tenth of it towards you would mean you'd be wealthy beyond compare and they'd get just so much more science out of it. Pop you in a space suit, teleport out to Mars, Juno, or the rings of Neptune and drop a sensor, be back before even a minute has passed, earn 1 million bucks for less than an hour of work and NASA would still be making a massive savings and could do so many more missions and observations because of you.

The bet one has the most obvious, simple financial benefits, but I'd probably go with teleportation. Even without thinking big, that's just such a massive quality-of-life improvement over having to take time to travel anywhere, and I could very easily make enough money with it to never want for anything.

Two problems there.

1) It says you can bring an item back, not a living creature. It's the same reason I assume you can't go back and grab historical people as well.

2) Bringing back ONE creature isn't going to help anyway - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_viable_population

Actually, there's also a third problem - namely that, in spite of how cool Jurassic Park may seem to you, bringing back extinct species isn't necessarily a good idea in the first place. And you'd better hope they aren't carrying any type of virulent infectious diseases that can hop species.

Though it's worth noting that the poll says you receive one of the inventions, which implies the others still exist. So you can always assume that other people are using the other inventions to benefit humanity (or profit from them personally) while you just indulge in your own personal whims.

The wording of the currency one is a little unclear.

"A device that allows you to obtain any currency inside of any video game free."

The way that it's phrased makes it seem like it's essentially just a cheat code for currency inside the game. So is it unlimited currency in the game? Or does it allow me to get currency from a game, here in the real world?

If it's the latter, that could be awesome. Some games use currency with properties that could have some very interesting effects and applications here.

You don't have to just ask yes or no questions though and you could even determine if you are wasting you time.

I bet I can use this device to help create a cancer cure in less than a year.

There is no "sorta" if your bets are correctly placed. You would obviously want to work with experts, and you could even find the best experts with bets.

I bet a person is on the right research path for a cancer cure.

I bet that person is on xxxxxx continent
XXxX country
XXxX half of the country
XXxX state
Female
Below the age of xx
Last name begins with x
First name begins with x

You then use your bets to get instant results for all there theories, with no risk, and 100% accuracy. You could even use it to instantly prototype a medication, or medical equipment.
