I don't care what anybody says, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

(It's also the only one of those I've seen)

Titan AE > FF > Mortal Engines of the three I've seen

Mortal Engines wasn't very good, but it wasn't the worst movie ever or anything.

Titan AE is awesome, I love it and will defend it to the death. Though I remember going to see it with my Dad and me and him being the only two in there.

Looked up Mortal Engines, and this was at the top of the wikipedia article.

Despite the failure and loss, the film will gain a cult following[12] due to baseless left-wing narratives by social justice warriors painting the film in a positive light.

Okay.

None of those are Oogieloves.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oogieloves_in_the_Big_Balloon_Adventure

"The film was released on August 29, 2012. On its opening weekend, the film became the biggest box office bomb of all time for films released in at least 2,000 theaters."

As far as that list, I've seen John Carter, Pluto Nash, and Spirits Within. Carter was legit good.

From the Oogieloves wikipedia page:

Being a fan of children's entertainment and having a past experience in it through an appearance on Blue's Clues, Braxton joined the project after learning that Viselman produced Thomas the Tank Engine, her son's favorite show.[9] She did no preparation for the role, reasoning that she "just went into the little kid that I am, that we all are, some times. I just said I'm going to have fun with her."[10] Braxton did actually have a severe cold when recording the singing voice for "Ode to Adelaide (The Scratchy Sneezy Cough Cough Song)," and the sneezes she performed were real. Due to her cold making her voice "deep" and "not-kid-friendly," it was pitch-shifted higher for the song.[9] The 86-year-old Leachman explained that she did the movements for her song through perseverance, and that the dancing influenced her to get back into exercising after fifteen years of not doing so.[11]

I'm learning so much today.

I can get behind this. I legitimately enjoy Titan AE. I also saw it in theaters to a relatively small crowd.

The only other one i've seen is The Spirits Within when it was new and I wasn't crazy about it at the time, but I've been meaning to give it another shot.

Zero. But I feel like putting on my box office nerd hat, even though I'm sure I'll regret it:

Mega Mana posted...

It was the worst domestic debut ever for a movie released in at least 2,000 theaters. As a whole, though, Oogieloves was too cheap to wind up among the biggest bombs on record - all movies that lost over $100 million adjusted, according to Wikipedia's sources.

linkhatesganon posted...

Sinbad's top 10 position does confuse me, but that's not the reason why. It's not hard to see that it was a box office bomb when you consider that theaters take a cut of their own from any given movie's box office, and that said cut typically rests around 50%. It's more that those numbers shouldn't add up to a $125 million loss on paper, unless its budget was drastically underestimated. If DreamWorks indeed "suffered a $125 million loss on a string of films" (to quote Wikipedia's article) around that time, of which Sinbad was one, that would explain it, but the source that provides that figure suggests that Sinbad alone produced that much red ink.

Same here. I liked it; it was visually very cool and I thought the narrative was solid/coherent. (Though maybe it helped that I had already read the book. fwiw I thought the movie was a huge improvement from the book because of how it streamlined and tightened things and removed a lot of extraneous side plots. Maybe it went too far?)

yeah, having not read any of the books i was confused about what the plot even was for much of the movie and i thought it didn't make some things clear, like what hester even sees in tom (maybe they did streamline this aspect TOO much). cool visuals, though. i'd put it in the same category as, say, avatar (ironically, one of the biggest box office hits).

Okay this is fair, I also have no idea what Hester sees in Tom (in either the book or the movie).

This is the singular aspect where I think streamlining hurts things, because in the book they're at least traveling together for weeks and there's time for Hester to defrost. In the movie the whole thing takes place in 72 hours (I think) and, like, Hester's professing love before the end of the second day.
