It made it a crime for a group of 10 or more people to fail to disperse within 1 hour of being ordered to do so (whether or not the assembly was peaceful). That may not seem so bad, but the law also provided that anyone could be charged by having their name posted in town, that failure to appear to make a defense constituted an admission of guilt, and violating this law carried a mandatory death penalty. Worst of all, it applied retroactively, effectively sentencing people who had previously participated in a perfectly lawful protest to death. If the People want the Senate to approve the President's nominees, they would vote in a Senate of the same party. If they don't want that, they vote in a Senate of the other party. Seems very logical. But they often dont know I'd a seat will be open in the next 6 years when they make that vote.
