Because the franchise ceases to exist for some people past X? I mean XIV is good, but 65% of that is because it's a theme park with previous games, including even Tactics, as its features.

I think 1, 2, 13-3, and 15 are arguably worse than VIII but it's definitely not a clearcut thing. VIII is just... God it has so many problems.

I wouldn't call the first FF anywhere as bad as the others you've mentioned. Flawed in some spectacular ways, maybe, but nowhere as bad as II, VIII, much of XI, XII, XIII-3, 1.0 XIV, or XV.

Most of the music is weak (although the standout tracks are really standout), the gameplay is the weakest in the series, the story is the dumbest in the series and the villain is really dumb late game (Not as dumb as NECROS/NECRON or whatever, but still)

The only highlights of the game are the Keyword system... but that would have only been good if more NPCs had more to say about miscellaneous things, like an Ultima or Exile/Avernum game.

I'd put Final Fantasy Legend 1 over FF2 EVERY TIME... infact I still enjoy Legend 1

Yep. Like, I would put XIII and XIII-2 at the top of the bottom tier when only counting mainline FFs, but bottom of the middle tier if counting ALL Final Fantasy titles, if that makes sense.

I still haven't gotten around to continuing 13-2 since, well, because of the OCD completionism of having a perfect pet even though the game is perfectly playable without that

FF Legend 1 is really a Saga game it was only given the FF title so it would sell better in America.

FF8 is probably my favorite game in the series honestly. Then again, my second favorite is FF2 so take that for what you will.

The way I describe XIII is take the worst parts of FFX, make them even worse then they were in FFX, start the story in the middle with only flashbacks to give the player any sense of what is going on, and put in an auto-battle system that will always give you the best possible chance of winning with the exception of half a dozen bosses. Then you have made FFXIII.

This is me. I can tolerate FFXII, at least in the Zodiac Age release, but there are lots of things I have to swallow (e.g. the fact that Vaan exists) to play that game.

I love FFVIII, but I accept that it is a very divisive game.

I agree, and it feels like the failures of X-2 and unpopularity of XI are why the Job System hasn't returned

XIII is my least favorite. I've enjoyed most the series, including a lot of the more divisive titles, but I really did not enjoy XIII.

I will counter-concede that 13 might have the strongest endgame content... matched only by X International

Lets be fair here, basically every FF story has parts that make no sense (plot holes, contradictions, ect). 8 is the worst when it comes to not understanding what is going on, for sure, but it's not unique.

XI was unpopular for reasons that had nothing to do with the job system. In fact, the job system was possibly one of the better things about it. Also: XIV totally has a job system, and has been SE's main cash cow since 2.0 came out.

I came in here to say X-2 was by far the worst for me, but I see others have said that already.

XIII though seemed to take away some of the parts from X-2, so it is probably pretty close to my second least favorite, 8 is up there though.

1 is one of my favorites (for the time) and the game I have fully played through the most times (as pretty much every combo of chars). I also have played it over and over again throughout my life, FF 6 (3) was/is my favorite of the whole series although in a weird twist of WTF I don't seem to be able to play through that anymore, even though I still can play through FF1 (not sure why, but I've tried like 3 times and always get distracted/move on...in the last 5 years that is).

Back in the day I replayed 3 (6) every summer along with the Might and Magic games (Xeen up), until Diablo 2 was released.

I have never finished X-2, 13-2 or 13-3 (I own both of them, have not even tried 13-3). I never finished 13 itself, and I have barely started XV (I have a digital version on my PS4..and have since release).

I did finish 8 and 9, but only once each. I have tried to replay 9, and own both on newer platforms (Steam or ps4/3). Didn't get through 9 the second time.

I didn't refinish X when I got the remake (I had finished X a few times prior to that, but less than 5), and I didn't even try the remake of X-2 (Before giving the game away).

I have the new version of XII but have not even loaded it yet (figure I'll actually play XV first....some year).

Both FF1 and FF3(6) were AMAZING when they were released, ground breaking and very replayable for years. FFX was also VERY good when it was released as well. Many people love FF7, but I only actually finished it once. That first time was quite good, but even though I have owned it on like 4 systems, I never was able to play through the whole game again.

I'd counter-argue that single-player RPGs probably shouldn't have "endgame content" in the first place.

But I'd also concede that I never played XIII (or any game in the franchise since) because it's trailer/plot summary sounded so utterly stupid, and I'd already been burned by FFVIII and FFXII, to the point where I was like, "Aight, I'm Audi 5000. Smell ya' later, homes!"

You must, of course, remember that this scenario took place in the early 2010s, when such slang was the height of hep cat jargon.
