Yeah I knew he had announced to run and had to drop out but i hadn't been keeping up (because why would you) and missed that he had been tapped as veep instead

rebirth continuing to impress my low expectations

up to 6 playable characters now, introduction to Hilda's interesting (thank god, the other fem cast member Annie's intro was terrible and hasn't been made up for yet). Eugene legit, Mao pretty decent, Tytree's great... Veigue is alright

the B-tier antagonist group Four Stars is fair, ahead of Symphonia's Grand Cardinals, maybe more around Oracle Knights. they're doing the job right now as the antagonists while the story is still building up the actual Queen's deal and her motives... I'mma guess something like searching someone she can body-change with? dunno if she's the actual main antagonist yet, never really know...

on that subject so far...

Phantasia: Dhaos was known antag from the get-go who turns out to kinda have a point in the end that nobody really tries or cared to understand throughout the game
Destiny: Kronos was a complete ass-pull whose existence was made up at the very end, after Hugo was already a Surprise Baddy
Eternia: Shizel... was minor, not really known until half-way and even then she turned out possessed by Nereid... but then again Nereid is kinda early in portrayed as evil because Celestia bad Inferia good. don't really know how to rate this as a known baddy since they're both minor anyways, I guess I thought they wouldn't actually bother making Nereid a blatantly evil force after initially trying to make the point Nereid vs Seyfert isn't so black-and-white.
Destiny 2: hmmm Barbatos misleadingly seems like a big bad to start, and Elrane initially appears as a holy woman... but it feels quick that you understand Barbatos is a grunt and Elrane is the proper antag...... not sure how to place Fortuna, I guess the party's trying to stop her existence when she's revealed as an entity
Symphonia: I mean you definitely know Yggdrassil's the baddy from Tower of Salvation although the fallen hero Mithos reveal is held right to to end hrmm (tho i mean pretty damn obvious)

Hmmm extrapolating I think the assumption Tales of Rebirth's Queen Agarte is the antag is fair, she doesn't seem threatening yet though. Mystery ain't bad though! Story isn't as frustrating as Destiny 2 was. I guess the proper comparison would be to Eternia but I can't help comparing Rebirth to Destiny 2 being more similar and Rebirth's looking favourable here for sure.

hrmmmmmm Tytree really making a case for top Tales of Rebirth character with his Trial, it's mainly a battle of him vs Eugene, as much as I wish Hilda were closer in this race too. I like how this was developed concurrently with Symphonia and covers the same story of Mithos's motives except from the sane playable party's take....... sans Annie who's still a dumb stubborn racist so far.

Tales really does tackle race issues a lot, Phantasia as a substory about the elves & half--elves, Symphonia of course with the same issues brought more to the forefront of the story and part of Mithos's motives, and Eternia with Celestians and Inferians, albeit with the two completely isolated from each others worlds for centuries until they finally confront half-way.

I don't think so with Destiny though... it kinda describes Aeth'er and Er'ther races but they seem more like nationalities stemming from a class divide from rich elites escaping the doomed Er'ther Lands for the Aethersphere... it's very lightly touched on compared to the other games so far and is basically just historical background of the Aeth'er Wars

hrmmmm yeah scene above was certainly the climax, still enough to keep the #2 spot but the final sequences aren't great, a bit hampered by yet again not really having a good antagonist for the endgame..... like with Destiny, we get another outta nowhere true final boss (and the one before it, Geyorkias, already wasn't much of an entity).. Wish it rather pushed Zilva more as a mastermind but sadly it didn't pan out that way. Ranking by endings this probably ranks second from the bottom

anyhow gotta get on a Rebirth Characters Ranking now then movin' on to Legendia! woo english 2 games in a row now with it and Abyss........ followed then by Tempest JP, and for Innocence despite the DS fantranslation I'll be playing my JP vita copy.... but from then on it'll be fully available English games the rest of the playthrough!

oh right I can make another sad comment on Rebirth is that I ended up not liking the battle system... the 3-rails system was just much more annoying than it was worth, enemies are always moving around along all the rails and they're really slippery buggers, not to mention holy lord often so many enemies per battle. It's a shame because there were elements I liked about it, like I never used the "healer" since everyone is capable of healing with the rush gage, and Ougis were neat even if just a more restrictive version of Symphonia's Levels combo system...... but ultimately my god I really hated these battles and yeah coming back to random encounters made it all the more frustrating =/

basically back to pretending nothing happened after the car accident, me and gdad just had to grin and bear it for July and then he moved out to Barrie to live nearby the gf he's been so insufferable to us over

fastforward 2-3 months now he's depressed, the gf hasn't been coming over as much as he was expecting, he's lonely, living in the absolute middle of nowhere without even a roommate anymore...... and to top it off it seems the relationship's over now... again

despite all the hell he's given us it's hard to just leave him alone like this when we're all he's got.......... we just wish he'd freaking realize how damn thankful he should be to have this loving and forgiving family he completely takes for granted :/

still like Norma/Will/Chloe, although Chloe is kinda in a situation like Hilda was for Rebirth where I develop an early bias that doesn't really hold up with substance.

Legendia beated aww yeah 7 down 11 to go... post-game seems neat (woah 8th character), I guess I'll do it after a little break

Soo I guess it got a bit more interesting with Chapter 6 but ehhhh I think I'll keep this behind Destiny. I kinda felt bad for Destiny 1 being in the bottom for so long but I really don't feel bad dumping on Legendia.... thinking back on it though I can't really say Destiny did that much better but I guess it just didn't bother me as much as Legendia has, even if I think Legendia has a more likeable cast....... but that's excluding the leading mains so I guess that's the issue.

so now... Symphonia > Rebirth > Eternia > Destiny 2 = Phantasia > Destiny > Legendia.... I swapping the placements of Destiny 2 and Phantasia 2s equivalency for some reason but not feeling strongly enough to change it to a '>' sign......... I could see Destiny 2 pulling ahead of Eternia at this rate, I dunno it just seems to be sticking with me as I move on from it, and throughout these rankings as I compare what games did right and wrong.

anyhow Legendia, geez I was feeling some sympathy for Shirley... but then just going oh okay I gotta do a genocide because I was chosen to do it.... what, you lost me. It could've been fine had she just been simply a brainwashed vessel of Nerifes but as the events played out it really just seem like she's alright with Nerifes's aims and it's just ridiculous

happy to get to Abyss next.... unsure what to expect from Tempest but after that should be smooth sailing!
