If you gave 12k to every one of the 260 million american citizens over the age of 17 (adults). It would only cost about 3 trillion dollars, about as much as the last stimulus bill actually. It's right around how much would have gone to each american if the last bill had just flat out done that and nothing else.

I'm pretty sure 12k across the board would do more then all the other crap that money was spent on last time, but I don't really think doing that is a good idea. It just makes more sense then doing other crap with it, at least if you want everyone to stay at home and get rid of the virus.

If you want everyone to go back to work it's a HORRID idea though lol.

To stimulate people gong back to work you should do something totally different.

Extend unemployment and the benefits but at a lesser ammount (+600 total per month, which means a total of $1000 on average per month for people on unemployment....total). Yes it's hard to live on that but it's possible.

Meanwhile give the full $1200 for anyone working jobs that make less than 50k a year (per month), for the next 6 months.

So all those grocery store workers, gas station attendants etc, will get bank for the next 6 months.

People will be rushing out to get those jobs, more so then in the past, because even at min wage they will be getting an EXTRA 1200$ a month for the next 6 months if they work them (more extra than if they were on unemployment).

If your average min wage is around $10/hr, that is almost double pay for the next 6 months, and would highly incentivize people to get back to work, which still costing significantly less than giving benefits to everyone.

Actually a better suggestion was a moratorium of all rent/mortgage payments (and interest on them)/and taxes on property until the virus is dealt with.

That means NOBODY pays rent for the intrum, but nobody is paying mortgage payments/taxes either, it's a clean wipe of all costs for renting etc.

Then you deal with food etc seperatly, but you don't need to actually SPEND any money at all, and you don't end up devaluing the dollar etc.

That is what should have been done from the start.

Did you even need the money? Were you laid off? You don't have any living expenses living at your parents, do you? Do you contribute to their costs? I got the stimulus but I never got laid off so it just went in my savings account.

Yeah, people like me need it. Those of us working hard and had to continue working throughout Covid-19 and didn't get any benefits for it.

Luckily people like you and I get paid well and can work from home. I think we need a UBI while this is going on, too, but that'll never pass until possibly after November depending on the outcomes.

A lot of them lost their jobs due to COVID. Many are trying to find work, and cant. A lot of people also most, of not all, of their hours at work, as well. Sure, some probably could get jobs. But not all. Plus, some are pretty susceptible to it and shouldnt be out at all...

It stated $1000 for unemployed but $1200 for anyone working...IE you....in addition to your wages.

So you are getting MORE money then those that are unemployed on top of your wages.

How is that bad for you in any way?

Yet it lets the people who can't get jobs survive. It should be done in combo with a moritorium on rent/mortgages etc mind you...but with that, everyone should be good till this whole thing ends.
