Right but I don't get how two percentages smaller somehow produce a bigger number. If you give me .21% of a pie and then .28% of another pie, I don't know how you get to having .29% of two pies.

Imagine you're WWE. You say you need to put on the best show you can possibly put up. You bring out Shane. You bring in a new faction. You do this brand new wild idea the RAW Underground. Your numbers improve despite odds.

And then you get beaten by your competition that hasn't been around for a year on your flagship show in the demo.

Because more younger people wanted to see Zack Ryder and Eric Bischoff.

Great question, and I admit I don't know the answer there, unless the difference in the two pies' total sizes makes that work, or perhaps there is a lack of data on genders that leaves part of the age group unsegregated there.

Yeah, because it's not just AEW, Guy's Grocery Games pulled a .18 overall in 18-34 but a .16 for females and .14 for males.

I thought the demo was 18-49.

Also ratings kinda confuse me.

RAW's third hour produced a .25 in 18-34, with a .20 for women and a .29 for men.
AEW produced a .29 in 18-34, with a .21 for women and a .28 for men.

The demo is 18-49 yes

18-34 is still a valued secondary demo though

And check again on those ages. Some of them are M 12-34 and F 12-34, not 18-34 like the other number in that section

Thats how those numbers dont add up for you

Yeah I was looking at the same chart.

Also, it seems we're settling in to what I thought the numbers would largely be at the beginning of the "war" which was AEW in the 900k-1m range to NXT's 700k-800k.

Especially since AEW is getting advertised heavily by NBA basketball right now.

In their defense, most of the women are doing filming for the tag tournament for these tapings, so I can see why they're not trying to overbook them right now.

But them not advertising the tag tournament when it's been doing great in terms of viewership is weird.

And they were centering their women's division around a lot of people who can't come to the states now or are outright injured.

It's been a rough time for them, but they can figure out SOMETHING to include more women's stuff.

This would make sense if this wasn't a reoccurring theme.

I believe the past 4 AEWs have featured 6, 5, 5, and 3 minutes of women's wrestling.

They basically don't want to take the ratings hit of prolonged women's wrestling matches for now. Which I don't fault them, when they're routinely winning the ratings war with NXT. And women still struggle with western audiences thanks to years of being told they were the piss break match from WWE/WCW/ECW/TNA so even when the division is presented well (like NXT) it still isn't great for ratings.

Yeah, but they had a lot of ideas and storylines set up before the pandemic locked people out of appearing and then they had horrible luck with injuries. There's been a stoppage of at least half a dozen women's storylines since the pandemic started.

I'm glad they have the tag tournament going on to help develop them so they can get feedback--at least the ones that are around.

I mean...she better. Say what you will about WWE's homoginized, safe, antagonistic product, but they are VERY committed to their women's division, and in most cases, keeping them at a high level or at least respected. Not sure what is about how AEW and WWE swapped priority levels of their women's and tag division's importance...but it is kinda weird.

Brandi doesn't give a shit about women, and Vince doesn't give a shit about people being together doing awesome things together. Maybe they can go run their own federation and then AEW and WWE can figure out how to make EVERYTHING important.

This match was extremely fun. Thank you for sharing it with me!

re: Brandi

I think she cares about women to an extent. She's making this women's tag team tournament, which is honestly just a good idea all around to help build the women currently in the division and ones they are looking at. It's good that these matches that may or may not end up bad aren't on live TV, but they're gaining traction online. The women's division was starting to build up before the pandemic and then the injuries after the pandemic made it harder for them. They're trying their best while being handicapped while still trying to save spots for the other women when they can return.

The problem is a rather vague and somewhat predatory-looking AEW Heels thing, which seemed like a fun idea when they did it until they decided to monetize it in a way that's expensive and also half-assed. Like you couldn't spend more time workshopping this and offering more stuff? Give a monthly subscription to it and a yearly one? It was just really, really poorly done and when Brandi was questioned on it, she had very poor answers and seemed to contradict things that are actually in the description for this AEW Heels thing she's trying to sell.

This is beyond the fact that I don't know that Brandi really understands wrestling, or who are good wrestlers. The AEW Women's Division has seemed a lot... I dunno, barren in terms of women with good backgrounds right now. I'm hoping for some surprises in the women's tag tournament, but they could have done a lot better. People like Penelope Ford have come a LOOOOOONG way from their debut, but some more ring generals in there would really help. I'm sure we could collectively name a lot of women who we would say would be a good fit that can help teach the other women.

And it's just stuff like the Nightmare Collective which was just the absolute drizzling shits. Just awful. When she buries fellow wrestlers. Collectively, people agree that most of Brandi's ideas suck. And now she's doing heel stuff on top of that? After she's doing a women's empowering community thing and then STILL maintaining a heel persona on Twitter even as she discusses it?

Brandi seems nice enough, and I honestly do feel bad each time I criticize her like this because I think she's just trying but so outrageously misguided most of the time. It's crazy she hasn't really picked up on anything with how long she's been in wrestling. Even from an administrative standpoint. I feel like her, more than anybody else, should just be asking the most questions of people or trying to educate herself more. She's in such a weird place to me.

Edit:

I think the main issue is that the AEW women's division has very few actual names people have heard of. Like the biggest star in the division is what, Britt Baker?

So of course they don't feature them during the important quarter hours and don't devote a lot of TV time to them. You can see it in the way Tony Khan books that he tries to avoid having the screen filled with people who aren't at least decently well known. Even private party now have matt hardy to manage them.

Like yeah they could try to make stars -they clearly are trying with Nyla, Shida, Ford and Swole. So what they need is a well known workhorse and there just aren't any free agents that fit that description. Like the best fit would be like...Cheerleader Melissa. Who they absolutely SHOULD sign but even she's just like an Indie name. Their ideal would be for like Candice LeRae to fall into their laps, but that's not gonna happen.

Adding Cameron of the Funkadactyls, a barely used NXT act, and a women's jobber for 3/4 of their matches on live TV is a very bad idea.

Adding Mel who has been gone for months and nobody cares about anyway and Brandi & Allie who have been primarily featured only on Dark for the past few months on live TV is also a very bad idea.

It's not even match quality, which I was surprised of from Anna Jay and Taynara Conti. It's just literal who's in the matches that nobody would watch.

Shida has beaten LITERALLY the entire women's division, including the QT Marshall school jobbers they've brought in since the pandemic started. That's an issue.

Well, right, I don't disagree there. It's a deeper issue that extends beyond just "put them on TV." I'm not literally saying "Just put them on TV."

I'm just saying atleast make SOME attempt to get people to know who these women actually are so you can put them on TV more.

And especially don't tell people what basically comes off as "Nah nobody wants to see women's wrestling"
