So my Matt Cardona AEW Debut Review:

The dude went in there knowing he had to look good, and I thought he did. He showed a lot of confidence, like he knew he belonged, and he tried to impress. I don't know that this match was the match for him to impress, but I mean he did a Tiger Driver. So that's cool.

Overall, the real test will be his first 1v1 match. But I feel optimistic honestly. He didn't feel like WWE paint by numbers Zack Ryder, which is really good. Like he got just enough offense in to look dynamic enough and establish himself to people who don't know him. The majority of the match was Silver & Reynolds beating on Cody.

But Silver and Reynolds are fucking awesome. Their stuff during the picture in picture was the best part of the match I thought. These guys are generic as fuck, but way too good to be jobbers. But in a division that is STACKED with amazing tag teams, it's hard for them not to be jobbers because they are so generic.

AEW tag team matches are my favorite thing to watch though. Their division is so damn good. Even Proud & Powerful vs. Best Friends was a banger. And next week is Tag Team Appreciation Week, so more tag team stuff! Any tag team match pairing is like an instant winner. It's wild.

I should. I love watching their matches in AEW and I know they can have personality, because they show loads of it on BTE. It's just that they kind of need the opportunity to show more personality on AEW TV.

Also, Orange Cassidy can cut a promo. Really impressed by him.

What's weird is that it's all a set-up for a babyface Cole and, of all things, an Undisputed Era breakup (or at least Kyle O'Reilly taking over). Apparently KOR and Fish were in the main event challenging Imperium for the titles and Cole/McAfee's arguing got them distracted and cost them the win AND not a single UE guy checked on Cole (only HHH and Shawn Michaels).

Lance Storm mentioned on Twitter he thinks that intergender matches should stop because there's a lot of women too afraid to say they don't want to compete in them out of fear of not being booked, and now everyone is dogpiling him.

I don't doubt for a second that people have actually come to him with that considering that I'm sure they're afraid to say anything given the most vocal/popular women's wrestler's are all actively saying it's great and they love it.

It's a weird situation, but bizarre that the people on wrestling Twitter are ignoring that girls have come to him with this concern in a movement including women not being punished for refusing certain things.

Like even Kylie Rae, someone I really like, is just like "Oh these men are still trying to dictate whether or not I should do intergender wrestling matches." When it's Lance trying to be a voice for these women who are too afraid to speak out and oppose the opinion of someone like indy's darling Kylie Rae, or be that woman who doesn't end up signed for Impact Wrestling because she refuses intergender wrestling.

I even saw some women wrestlers going "Where have you heard this from???" like it's such a ridiculous opinion for some women to have and that no woman should ever have it. Like Lance Storm is just going to fucking lie about women coming to him saying "I'm not comfortable doing intergender wrestling but I don't want to lose bookings."

Lance isn't talking about students talking about specific people. He's talking about what they've said in general. (Although I'm sure they've complained to him about specific people too.)

I actually don't think intergender wrestling should be shut down either, but the fact that he's talking about women who are uncomfortable with it in general that are too afraid to speak up about it themselves, and that people are dumping on him just for offering a dissenting opinion and ignoring the women who have come to him with their own concerns is shitty.

Talking with Steiner about it, the core issue seems to be that talent are afraid to say no to promoters. Not just with intergender matches, but also death matches, high risk matches, etc. Unless you are talking about specifically sexual assault within the intergender match, those are all the same issue

So the wrestling business needs to unionize

The wrestling business needing to unionize is always the thing that needs to happen. But I don't know what it would take at this point.

Edit: But yes, the issue of talent not wanting to say no to promoters is the issue I think Lance is getting at, along with saying something about not wanting to do intergender stuff publicly and also be judged and blackballed by their peers.

If I remember right, I don't think Lance does like intergender wrestling.

Honestly, I don't really have any interest in it anywhere outside of Lucha Underground because they were all portrayed as super people in a gritty, fantastic version of wrestling. In the more grounded wrestling promotions it doesn't really interest me at all.

These women can say "I don't enjoy intergender" and then they're the target of abuse from wrestling Twitter for disagreeing with their darlings like Kylie Rae, Jordyn Grace, Taya, etc. Then be seen by promoters as difficult. And then cut down their potential for bookings.

Like just as an example, at the Pittsburgh, PA or a lot of West Virginia area indy feds, there are rarely enough women there. So, their options were either wrestle the men or you don't wrestle in Pittsburgh unless we happen to be able to get another woman booked.

There's some balls on Ethan Page saying "Well I can say I don't want to wrestle certain people, so all of these women can too." I'm baffled he thinks that's a good look.

I know we should be able to make it so all of the women can too. And yeah, I don't agree with getting rid of it entirely either, but after having a couple lengthy conversations with my buddy who wrestles, he's told me that it's just not easy to be able to call out these promoters. You get blackballed from that fed, then you get blackballed from others. Or you lose your spot. Like, you're at the mercy of these guys unless you want to travel longer lengths or just move sometimes. The solution is to get rid of these shitty promoters, but then that means less places to wrestle too.

It's all a total mess, and I can see why people would consider "Maybe just get rid of it?" instead of trying to battle these awful promoters, which is what should happen, but it's a huge undertaking.

But additionally, if you want to wrestle in the areas around Pittsburgh as a woman, you just have to do intergender. You just have to. Like, it was always a rarity and considered something special when there was a woman vs. woman match around there. That's how barren the women's wrestling landscape is in that area.

No no. Its to make it so women can't say yes.

It will still be the promotors making a booking decision and the women not being able to say anything to oppose that decision. Just in the opposite direction so its fine.

Update on Marty Jannetty:

Jannetty explains why he beat a man with a brick
https://nodq.com/news/598734452.shtml

As previously noted, there was a Facebook post made by former WWE star Marty Jannetty about making a man "disappear" when he was 13 years old. The post was apparently deleted but numerous people took screenshots of it.

Boston Wrestling Sports spoke with Jannetty and he talked about what happened:

"He was a front desk clerk. He was known to sell the weed. What I didn't know was he lured in little kids."

Jannetty claimed that when he was trying to buy weed in a car outside a bowling alley, the man "reached over and grabbed me down there." Jannetty said the man's name was Bob and people made fun of the guy because he was gay. However, Bob apparently never touched Jannetty in that manner before. Jannetty said that he attempted to leave the car and that's when Bob got angry. According to Jannetty, Bob grabbed him by the shirt and hair and threw him to the ground behind the bowling alley. Jannetty said he hit Bob with a brick when Bob tried to pull down his pants:

"I can't say he deserved to die, but he deserved to get his ass beat. And, when I was beating him in the head with a brick, I was only trying to beat his ass, I wasn't trying to kill him."

"Can you imagine dragging a guy -- he's just tried to f*** you in the ass --- can you imagine dragging him to the river and throwing him in? And, then finding out on the news the dude's missing. You know the dude. And, you know more than that. That affected me bad, bro." (quotes courtesy of TMZ.com)

I watched the video of the Cole/McAfee thing. It was literally McAfee cheapshotting Cole as he was held down by like 5 other people. Which for McAfee talking all this shit about how Cole is a tiny little bitch, the only way he can actually do anything to him is when he's held in place and he gets a free shot at him, makes McAfee look pretty weak.

Like I thought they got into a scuffle and McAfee came out on top, but no it was literally a bunch of people holding a man still while another dude who made millions for kicking things very hard got a chance to run up and kick someone really hard in the head. And he was the one taunting Cole about needing help to do anything.

Also ratings kinda confuse me.

RAW's third hour produced a .25 in 18-34, with a .20 for women and a .29 for men.
AEW produced a .29 in 18-34, with a .21 for women and a .28 for men.
