I've never seen this film but is there something I'm missing

Every time I see a scene online the whole thing is just beyond fucking tame

Is there a scene where the main characters rape an animal corpse, or do people seriously believe race based humor doesn't exist anymore?

It's marginally more offensive than Spaceballs, which is to say, not really that bad, A lot of its humour, though, relies on tongue-in-cheek racist jokes that actually poke fun at racism more than promote it, but that kind of subtlety might be lost on modern mainstream audiences.

Every time I see that quote from Steve Carrell about how the Office would be cancelled if it was airing today, I think of the fact that Always Sunny is still on the air.

Pretty much. Blazing Saddles is one of my all time favorite movies, but say that out loud and I guarantee you someone will label you a racist. Even though, they've never actually seen the movie or the subtley goes right over their heads.

Mel Brooks was a little Jewish kid who grew up to realize he could take the piss out of all the bigotry he saw in the world by making fun of it. Bonus points in the fact that it was done so well the actual bigots miss it...and end up lokking even dumber.

But yes, you couldn't do a movie like that today. Society is too thin skinned and, to quote Sherrif Bart, "They are *so* dumb."

No, there isn't a scene like that in the movie.
Why not watch it and decide for yourself what the movie is, instead of depending on others to decide for you.

Just 10 years ago, people were still doing blackface as a joke to poke fun at the concept. Now literally even that can't be done without getting pulled.

Also it has white people saying the n-word multiple times for comedic effect. Do you think that's a big thing in films today?

It's a good film, and yes, you totally could make a film like it today but it would be just that: a knockoff.

I think that a somewhat more recent film that is comparable to Blazing Saddles in some ways (not a lot but some) while not being a lame sort of carbon copy is Four Lions (2010 I think). Has anyone here seen that film?
