Pretty much. Blazing Saddles is one of my all time favorite movies, but say that out loud and I guarantee you someone will label you a racist. Even though, they've never actually seen the movie or the subtley goes right over their heads.

Mel Brooks was a little Jewish kid who grew up to realize he could take the piss out of all the bigotry he saw in the world by making fun of it. Bonus points in the fact that it was done so well the actual bigots miss it...and end up lokking even dumber.

But yes, you couldn't do a movie like that today. Society is too thin skinned and, to quote Sherrif Bart, "They are *so* dumb."
