The story is that they were illegally shutting down the highway with their protest for NINETEEN days. That the driver may have entered the shut down highway via the wrong side of an on/off ramp.

The people defending the driver are saying he was driving too fast to stop so tried to swerve around their roadblock, couldn't see the people due to being all clad in black on a highway at 1:30am.

He did stop eventually and someone tried to tear him from the vehicle and it sounds like 2 people shot at him. So he sped off.

Personally, I think he is going to be guilty of a crime, definitely. Others are saying it wasn't his fault but the protestors, which I don't think absolves him there.

He was booked on two counts of vehicular assault and denied bail (pending more charges / investigation).

You aren't destroying history with tearing down statues. You are destroying a piece of history. The statue is there to bring rememberance to a history of an area, not reverence. We have a Braddock statue here, people recreate the battle of Jumonville Glen, there is a whiskey rebellion statue/memorial in Monongahela, etc. It isn't about reverence but remembering what shaped your areas, culture, history. You can learn from it.

After the Civil War, the south was completely pardoned to try and bring the nation together again. The rebellion was something that shaped their culture and history. The rebel flag has become to most a symbol of southern pride, heritage, or rebelliousness itself.

A lot of these Confederate statues were also statues of people who served within the United States of America prior to the war. Robert E Lee was one of the most admired military men in the entire country and Lincoln's first choice to be the union general itself.

When you destroy your pieces of history, it enables to continue destroying history. Being critical of someone or acknowledging people weren't perfect or maybe even great is perfectly acceptable. However, you are destroying things that are important to the history of areas and how their culture formed.

If statues are deemed to be an issue, they need to be decided by the state to remove them (or federal if theirs) and done according to the representation of the state. You don't get to arbitrarily decide what you can deface, destroy, or etc, no matter your emotions. These are crimes. They always have been. And have consequences. There are proper avenues where people can discuss the thing in question and see how the state feels regarding it.

A lot of hypocrites who say Durr Republicans dumb for equating gun rights to the American revolution (which is correct) also will try to equate tearing down statues to the American revolution. The Boston tea party was criminals that if caught would have surely been sentenced to death. Just because America won the war and it became part of their heritage, doesn't mean it is an acceptable thing... Unless you plan to overthrow the government and win.

Gangs? Programs to help eliminate poverty and to reduce the number of Americans who feel like they don't have any choice but to live that kind of life.

Drug wars is a more nuanced topic. But a solution would involve some level of decriminalization and reform of our criminal justice system. Get the non violent drug offenders back into society and in programs where they can become contributing members rather than a source of increased taxes to stay locked up.

Most of those statues were put up to intimidate black people. Let's not re-write history and pretend most of these monuments are well-intentioned. They were not. When you look at who had them put up, and why they put them up, and when they put them up as well as where they put them up -- most of which were during the Jim Crow era, and often in states that either didn't exist during the period of the American Civil War or were in fact Union States -- you see that they weren't put up in remembrance of the past, but in an attempt to embrace a white supremacist future. And let's not forget that neo-nazis have co-opted these symbols as part of their 'heritage' (which is nothing more than a code word for White Supremacy)

America decided I was an essential worker, offering no protections and no way to get benefits if I just quit. My job didn't do any testing, no temperature checks, all while having an immunocompromised father at home.

And when we asked Americans the most basic of help, to not go to bars, to socially distance, and to wear mask they throw an absolute conniption.

And now we're setting daily records for new cases while I've lost two neighbors to it.

Fuck America.

He can request asylum for fear of death. If surely the case is as bad as he says, he will get approved. People carry their belongings with them and have no money all the time in their asylum claims. Head to Mexico and apply for asylum.

Like, he is being irrational. It is not the world's fault that his father is immunocompromised. If he is, he should be not leaving the house, yet we know he just took a trip the other day. You have a job, if you feel you cannot do it and maintain health of those in your house then you could quit and look for another or look for another while working there.

You are placing blame on everyone around you for your father being immunocompromised. That isn't their fault.

I have little respect for people that hate my country and even less respect for fellow countrymen who are benefiting from our nation and don't know what it is like to live elsewhere who hate our country.
