I could not believe the section NISA showed off for their Cold Steel 4 preview. That said, can't say I envy their marketing strategy here, since they still gotta try and sell CS3 on the Switch.

Beat Yakuza 5 at long last. Nearly 80 hours on it! Also, I can see why people did not like how Yakuza 6 was the game to wrap up Kiryu's story since Yakuza 5 felt much better as a send-off.

Oh right, I think I forgot to mention I finished book 6 of The Expanse the other day. The first half is a bit slow, but it's got some big twists and moments in the back half to make up for it. The last couple battles in particular were fantastic.

Not holding out any hope that Ciel gets an official localization this time around but I would think it would be fairly trivial to port over Ar and then my Vita's purpose will have been completed and it can return to slumber.

Beated 3 Cryptids so far. I think those are all the available ones so far, but yeah. Rean, Alisa, Jusis, Emma have been the main team to make them pretty easy. With Laura and Fie as backups. If I had to rank Class VII in combat, either Gaius or Machias would be at bottom. Dunno how to make them unique and useful.

Finished VLR. This game was very good! A bit surprising after I didn't like 999 much at all, but part of that is the vastly improved gameplay system. The flowchart is genius, and it's great that they added it into the later releases of 999, which I will never play. The way they integrated it into the plot here was cool too. I liked the cast in general a good deal more by the end - Luna had a lot of great scenes later on in particular. The plot was pretty cool in general, I think. All the twists made sense, and while I was able to predict some, there was surprising stuff too. I figured out the goal of the plan, but not how the plan was going to work, and I didn't figure out who Zero was either (though I probably could've if I'd tried a little harder...). The ending being kind of a cliffhanger was a little disappointing, but it still felt conclusive, so I didn't mind.

The puzzles were mostly pretty fun, but a few stumped me and a couple were annoying (looking at you, stupid dice puzzles). Not having to redo them was so nice. The music was super good in the puzzle rooms too. It felt like every one of them had a totally different style of music to it, but they usually managed to make the song feel intense or threatening in some way.

It's kinda interesting comparing this to Ghost Trick (since I played the two in close succession). I feel like this was the better game overall, but I think I still enjoyed Ghost Trick a little more. The story's ending was a little more powerful there. Both good games though.

Also started Zero Time Dilemma now. Played for a couple hours, and while I'm mostly liking it, there are a couple key flaws.

1. WHY ISN'T IT A VN!? Augh the "watch cutscenes play without being able to advance dialogue manually" style of modern games sucks. I think this is going to make me like the game a good deal less overall.

2. The art isn't that great? Like, it should be a big improvement over VLR, but there's something off about it. I think it's the way the mouths move.

Been fun so far though. Got a couple bad ends, and they feel like they had more effort put into them than the VLR bad ends did.

Machias: That one craft that advances everyone's turn to the front. Give him Chrono Burst as well to create the feedback loop of: Cast Chrono Burst -> Advance the whole party with that craft (Accel Burst? Forget the name) -> Everyone else can have their turns -> Machias casts Chrono Burst again with the "second" turn the original Chrono Burst gave him to repeat the loop. You can do this as long as your ability to replenish his EP and CP holds out, just have one of the other party members to use the items with their advanced turns. Combine with that MQ that makes items more effective for more cheese.

For a less outright cheese strategy for him, just load him up with status effect quartz and/or stat down ones like Sword/Shield Breaker and debuff enemies like crazy with his AoE.

Yeah I liked VLR a lot more than 999 too. Afaik ZTD's graphics suck because it had basically no budget.

F/GO: oh my god this Lostbelt really is Attack on Titan. Ophelia even was hiding the fact that her Servant was a Titan Shifter and actually the Colossal Titan! I almost want to go rewatch that stretch of the story in the Records but with the AoT soundtrack instead lmao. Just defeated Surtr and Ophelia died. Based on the displayed reward for the next section looks like it's about time to wrap this up once my AP regenerates.

F/GO: Aaaaaand LB2 beated. Definitely an easier Lostbelt than LB1 IMO, though some of that was the enemy types this one threw at me were ones my team as currently composed is better at dealing with. Think I preferred LB1 storywise as well though LB2 had its strong points. The Valkyries were fun, we got an Illya cameo, the Sigurd/Surtr thing was fun, and Napoleon was a blast to take into combat. Patxi and the Yaga definitely felt more developed than Gerda who was literally the only named human/normal NPC in the whole Lostbelt... which isn't her fault it's just she wasn't placed in a fair fight there really being made to carry that all by herself when Chaldea was like hardly with her anyway.

so after like... 5 months or whatever I have caught up to the story! And I even maintained my "If a Story Support option is provided take them rather than a Friend Support" thing the whole journey!

Time to work on actually getting more Servants raised up so I can more easily handle different situations. I'm in a much better place on that front now than I was even say a month ago but still there are definitely soft spots in my roster I'd like to work on.

A good ways into ZTD now. Not liking how much this is paced compared to VLR. Felt like that gave a steady trickle of twists/revelations in each route, and we haven't really gotten that many here, other than Mira's true identity. Got through all the early parts though, so maybe that'll change now.

Apparently, they're making a new Pirates of the Caribbean with Margot Robbie as the new lead? If this is essentially a soft reboot with no returning characters, I'm not sure I'd be interested in it, especially if they just want her to be Harley Quinn as a pirate.

4 basically was an attempt at a soft reboot but just keeping the two most popular characters! The new characters were almost all bad! 5 was a lot better.

I like class VII a lot that people hyping the new class rubs me the wrong way. Also I think it's pretty bad they're giving Altina the trope where she thinks everything Rean does is perverted.

Altina definitely most improved character between CS1/2 and CS3 imo.

Granted she was starting from a pretty low place in my case because I really didn't care about her in CS2.
