So uh, Trump really needs to get his campaign in gear. Only 4.5 months left to Election Day. Biden's obviously decided to run a high road type campaign of just sitting back and not engaging. That's worked well for him so far and it could work. However, if your opponent wants to run a super low road campaign, taking the high road historically fails, so Trump should start doing that fast. That clip of Biden extorting Ukraine should be airing like every commercial break on every TV station and before every Youtube video.

worth noting that if trump thinks he probably won't win, he immediately gives up (we saw this during the campaign of the '12 election, when he speculated about running for president but then announced he wasn't running very early on). it really does seem like he's given up already.

I think Trump would rather lose than have Americans at his throat non-stop mischaracterizing and misrepresenting him all the time. I don't think he finds it very fun or appealing. Just wish he hadn't run so we could have gotten another republican choice.

Harris would be a supremely disappointing choice. A lawyer acquaintance of mine has been helping defend against police abuse of power her entire career, and did not have nice things to say about harris's resume

This doesn't feel different than any other company to me.

I live at the edge of the city of Clovis and the city of Fresno, and the two cities handled the pandemic entirely differently. There was a long stretch of time where clovis had already rescinded it's stay at home order and changed it's mask requirement into a mask suggestion and so you could walk unchecked into a Target or Wal-Mart on the clovis side, and on the fresno side they were limiting the number of occupants and requiring full mask participation. And sure, they companies could have enforced stricter requirements on a company-wide level, but they didn't and I think that's the same for most companies. I imagine amc will conform to the state and local statutes whatever they happen to be, but they will not enforce their own company rules on top of whatever the locals ones are.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Biden is going to pick Kamala Harris. I was really sure of it way back at the start, it wavered a bit after she tried to bury him at that debate and I even started to think there might be something to the Warren rumors even though I still think that would be a less than ideal choice but I think we've looped all the way back around to "It's Harris."

Her past as AG plays in her favor in a general where it would do the opposite in a primary. Even given current events I think that's still true.

Off the top of my head, Harris thought the solution to school truancy was more policing and threatening to prosecute poor families, and was really tough on nonviolent drug crime. It's not good, and she specifically has a lot to answer for if she wants to pivot to being more progressive than Biden.

But you know what? My honest opinion is she's fine. And I say this as someone who kept yelling to defund the police. But from my perspective, with very few exceptions, all Democrats are on the side of cops. And so is Bernie. I think at this point it's pretty ridiculous to be resigned to voting for the biggest cop of them all, Joe Biden, and have it be contingent on the VP pick.

I don't think anyone here is going to be happy with his pick if the lists going around are accurate, so if you're not gonna vote at least be honest and blame Biden for being a dumpster fire and not whatever woman he picks for VP.

Probably.

It's why I think Harris has been the best VP pick for like over a year now.

Doesn't hold a seat that would likely be lost forever or otherwise overly difficult to keep if she left it (Brown, Baldwin)
Age unlikely to be a concern (Warren, Sanders)
Balances the ticket demographically (Beto, Buttigieg)

Klobuchar was basically eliminated given her past in Minnesota (and would have been a Tim Kaine-esque choice anyway.)

Which leaves you of a list of probably: Duckworth, Harris, Cortez-Mastro, Abrams, and maybe Julian Castro.

CCM took herself out of consideration, I think Duckworth did too, forget if Castro did but honestly might just be asking for a headache there with his last name unfortunately. Which leaves you with Abrams and Harris really. Abrams's lack of experience could be a weakness which Harris wouldn't share so =/

Val Demings is a rep from Florida and another common name on the list but she's also a literal ex-cop and doesn't have the national recognition Kamala has (probably a better record though) so I dunno.

Yeah. I could have come up with a few other names that I think are unlikely for similar reasons (like Whitmer.) I didn't mean that to be entirely exhaustive but I did try to cover the biggest names and most likely candidates off the top of my head.

Yeah that's a good point. Alamo Drafthouse is requiring masks but allowing you to take them off to eat which is the entire business model. I assume AMC is also going to still be selling concessions so it doesn't help much, especially if they're still booking theaters at full capacity.

I was "fine" with Abrams but Tony brought up some good points the last time I asked about her. She also has not held any major office so I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with her considering how old Biden is.

I think Harris would be good. I know the optics of picking a former prosecutor aren't great, but she's been good on just about everything since then and I'm not going to hold what she was doing 20+ years ago against her. Plus, she better than Biden in just about every way imo. It's weird to be ok with Biden but not ok with Biden+Harris.

(My favroties are still Duckworth/Baldwin but I think both of those are pretty unlikely. Whitmer would've been a really good choice too just because I know Trump hates her)
