I don't buy this. Campaigning is the one part of being President that Trump unambiguously likes. There's no way he would ditch a single day of the campaign, even if he's guaranteed to lose.

I really don't see how this is any different from kneeling during the national anthem. There is no legal requirement to remain silent during a moment of silence. It's a simple request. Most people politely choose to honor it, just like most people politely choose to honor the request of "please stand for the national anthem."

Kneeling shouldn't be illegal, but it also shouldn't insulate you from charges of "being a dick" just like you are if you shout out during a moment of silence. If the prison can discipline COs for talking during a moment of silence, why shouldn't the NFL be able to discipline anthem-kneelers? How is it different?

Some people just watch him for...I don't know why exactly. They think he's funny, maybe?

But there is (or was) a large contingent of online followers that thought he was smart and woke because he talked about fringe conspiracy stuff sometimes. He talks like he knows what he is talking about, regardless of how ill informed he is and that carries weight with some people who like to think they are smart and never bother to look things up or fact check anything. Luckily, I've started seeing more actual backlash recently because all of his COVID idiocy. His subreddit finally started turning on him slightly and that Bill Burr snippet of him dunking on Rogan was everywhere for a while.

I know you were all waiting on this post, so here I am.

Rogan has his moments. When he first started podcasting, I listened to every single episode for YEARS because hes funny and has funny people on. At a certain point, he started getting really obnoxious, primarily about conspiracies and SJWs and I didnt listen to a single episode for years.

Then a friend of mine told me hed mellowed out and linked me to an episode where he called himself on his shit, and he was way better, so I came back and started listening regularly again, except this time skipping episodes where the guests didnt interest me.

Anyway, he has been sliding a little more towards the obnoxious ever since he had Jack from Twitter on. He didnt press him very hard and just had a conversation (as he does), and the response was just an overwhelmingly wave of harassment.

So in response he had Jack back on with Tim Pool (who i fucking HAAAATE) and ever since then he has pretty blatantly tried to be more fair to these people because they bombard him if he isnt.

As far as Joe Rogan being smart, he would be the first person to say he isnt, he says it regularly. He DOES have an absurd memory, where he can remember the exact quote, from a specific chapter of a specific book related to like any topic that comes up for discussion, but he always says Im really dumb, I can just remember things. Anyone who says Joe Rogan is smart either listens and only hears what they want to, or doesnt listen and only interacts with the former group.

That being said, Tl;dr yeah that clip is dumb as hell and embarrassing af

One thing I appreciate about Rogan's approach is that there are no time limits to his podcasts, not even flexible ones. The last full episode I listened to was Bernie, which was about an hour, but I know he has some guests there for like four hours. He's keen on staying quiet and allowing his guest(s) to speak for several minutes at a time uninterrupted, which is just unheard of in televised interviews. I assume this isn't unique in the realm of interview podcasts, but Rogan's is by far the most popular, so it's the one I most often see on YouTube.

That said, despite his growth in popularity and attempts to speak with a broad spectrum of people, the dude's clearly still a meathead jock. He's always been obsessed with the alpha male crap and worships guys like Brock Lesnar. He's basically the college frat jock who read a couple more books than his buddies, but he's also a 50-year-old husband and father so it's a little weird and off-putting.

i've said it before but one of the things that bothers me about rogan is that he seems to have few convictions of his own. sure, he'll have bernie on and agree with most of what he says, but he'll also have gary johnson on and totally agree with his "the state is so terrible and amoral m i rite?" bullshit. people have told me before that he intentionally does this ("he wants to make his guests feel comfortable!") but this doesn't result in him being an appealing podcast host to me. it just makes him come across so... slimy and disingenuous. plus there's been other episodes where he DID totally trash his guests (an infamous example is the steven crowder episode where rogan obliterated crowder's anti-drugs stance), so i'm not sure if it really is such a deliberate approach. seems more likely to me that he's too much of an intellectual lightweight to have a proper debate with his guests, so it's a lot easier for him to sit back and do his "oh wow. interesting. i didn't know that" thing.

also, it's obviously bullshit that he refused to have most of the dem candidates on the show (he just had tulsi, yang and bernie, i think?), considering all the garbage guests he DID have on.

All of you have a model of Rogan that is completely and totally off-base.

He's not trying to be Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity or whatever. He's trying to be "the view for dudes." Just a normal chat show that discusses politics sometimes, in between discussion about other trivial things, and who doesn't actively court controversy or offense or whatever. Jay Leno would also have Republicans and Democrats on and generally act cordial with both of them. That's literally all Rogan is trying to do.

Just because someone is a "podcast host" doesn't necessarily mean they have to be a political evangelist. Just because every podcast lefties listen to is like that doesn't mean they all have to be...
