a part of me was hoping to vote for one of the two real megalovanias but not both (or also not neither) and both of these matches were plenty close for that to be the case, Merciless Savior could've easily done it if not for 1:55-2:47. Even then most of the rest of the song is so solid that I still want to vote it over Megalovania, but the extra chanting later on pushes that back still. Maybe YOaTI could've gotten my vote if it faced the megalovania version I liked less...though eh probably not. It is close though. They all kind of are. Bonus Match is weird because it's like EBMV is an "unfinished / in progress" version of HSMV but that 'more-of-a-finished' version adds stuff I don't like, like that electric guitar. Still the positive additions ultimately wind up outweighing the negative ones.

SSBU Megalo is basically all the megalos in one and thus fresh and good for the time being. I overplayed UT megalo to death and annoyance, and even now with how I roll my eyes at it because of mass overplay sometimes, it's still better than whatever that thing is as its opponent. It's not Flightless or Kanade bad, but I still rose eyebrows at it throughout the song.

Merciless Savior and YAOTI are each among my favorites in their respective contests, makes my feelings on those two matches extra strong since every version of megalovania is among the most anti-me songs represented in vgmc. four 3/10s with the megalovanias today, with a 8/10 for yaoti and 9/10 for merciless savior!

The bonus match is technically a set of 2 "new songs" so i could do round 1 style writeups for them, but I don't like being negative and that's really all I'd be so I will not. I prefer the homestuck version basically just because it has more going on and it is more "epic" and "edgy" which are both very positive traits for me : )

I'm not sorry for this. I've already lined up another Megalovania for once SSBU retires, and it's not Halloween Hack.

Anyway, going into today, I thought my order was UT > SSBU > EBHH > HS, but listening to them for today's matches, I think I like SSBU the best now? And Halloween Hack's not exactly far behind them. Homestuck's definitely the weak link, because the instrumentation is just weird. Maybe it would've worked better if it was Caliborn's theme instead of Jack's.

Every time Yesterdays Opponents are Todays Ingredients comes up is my cue that we're in a new round of ToC since I'm not actually following the bracket.

I almost liked Earthbound MV lot more until the main instrument started at 0:37. That part really sounds horrible; change that sound to anything else and this would be way more enjoyable and easily one of the renditions of this song. Homestuck MV might even technically be a better song, but I can't fully get into it for the same reason that I don't like most of Ultimate and Smash 4's music (which is also why I'm not voting for that song).
