...It's more complicated than it should be.

CS2 tracks two things from a CS1 Import: Who you pick to dance with and who you could have picked to dance with. It uses the former in certain flashbacks Rean has, mostly in the Prologue. It uses the latter for all the reunion scenes. If you could have picked them to dance with, you'll get their expanded reunion scene... even if that leads to jarring moments like including a flashback that assumes you did pick them even if you very much did not. You can straight up have a file where you picked Alisa but had Millium as an option and in the Alisa/Millium reunion Rean will flashback to Millium talking to him in Valimar at the very end of CS1 in their reunion scene even though you picked Alisa and she was the one who spoke to him there

i have no idea why it behaves that way. but it does.

Theatrhythm (Curtain Call specifically) is one of the best rhythm games ever. I only wish there was even more DLC. I would have loved if they went even deeper into the catalog of non-FF games.

So I started Utawarerumono (well yesterday) and this almost feels at times like Dr. Stone but Senku got iseaki'd and had his intelligence nerfed to reasonable levels. Finally made it to an opening movie splash so I guess I'm done with the prologue? Things certainly escalated quickly there.

Specifically there was the ultimate "y'all done fucked up" moment when Nuwagi's soldiers killed Tuskur. Who was the best. So we rose in rebellion. And while I was joking a bit with my Dr. Stone Isekai comparison I am explicitly not ruling out that framework because Hakuowlo's base memories definitely seem to be from a more "normal" world than wherever we are and he has some basic working knowledge of chemistry/agriculture/smithing that is way beyond the scope of knowledge possessed by anyone in the village.

Battle system is a bit weird to adjust to and there was some weird moments in the last battle I played where I thought I knew the enemy range but NOPE but you basically have Infinite Divine Pulse so it doesn't really matter.

Huh. Interesting that this was all in the prologue. I had always assumed the anime rushed this part in order to prioritize the more action-y segments later on, but seems like it was probably like this in the source material as well.

I literally assume you can cut my playtime of games in half to get a sane approximation for a reasonable person. I don't know what it is about me. VNs aren't immune either.

F/GO: Shimousa: The Land of Unexpected MVPs. A Second Ascension Ana and Hans carried against Assassin and then Shiki basically solo'd Rider after the rest of my team fell defeating Berserker. side note game: you can't just go "fourth and fifth duel" in a 2v1 (or 6, as it may be) like that that is not a duel. Seems I'm getting close to the end of Shimousa.

Posting my CS2 thoughts after beating the Intermission.

The gameplay is a huge improvement over CS1. Everything seems more balanced. I don't know, I feel like I have more reason to use different crafts and arts now. While in CS1 you could just get through almost every fight with the same few crafts. I also appreciate little extra things like new icons on the map, the fishing spots, the pop ups when your notebook is updated.

And the npc tour around Ymir is less pace-breaking than the npc tour around Trista. And even though it's basically the same thing in the end, I think it's more fun the Old Schoolhouse is spread out across different shrines instead of a single building.

And speaking of pacing, the structure just makes more sense. I explore the land, fight some Alliance tough guys, I survive and now I get to rest at the hot springs. Instead of here's Rean telling you what's going on in Erebonia, but wait, gotta do meaningless free day now, and don't get anything exciting until like the end of the first Field Study day.

That said CS1 has all the merit for making me care about these characters thanks to their development in those free days. But CS2 is getting the merit of making me like the villains, especially Duvalie and Vita. Cayenne is a joke though.

I think pacing is one of CS2's biggest issues, although it's more toward the end of the game. I do like Ymir as a hub though, and basically getting to take whoever you want with you whenever you want is nice.
