Oh hey, I forgot how much I hate listening to my own voice. I'm not a stats topic guy, so I'm sure I had a few wild takes, but hopefully I didn't make too big a fool of myself. I had a blast talking to Ng and Yo all night.

And if you're wondering about the myriad of pronunciations during the episode, say "cashew bark" before trying to say my name and you'll probably get it right.

On the BotW match, what if what we are seeing is some increasing anti-voting against Zelda? Sort of like a reverse bandwagon? Maybe after seeing it pull those ridiculously dominating performances, voters are starting to feel like it's some kind of bully to be defeated? I mean, the result on FF15 was just humilliating.

Yeah, I have to say, three of the most likely Guru winners being azuarc, Ngamer, and yoblazer is about as heartwarming of a scenario that we could ever hope for.

On the note of the Smash/Mario heiarchy being rigid in the last few gaming generations, yoblazer's analysis makes me wonder how the next generation could pan out. Ultimate is the very culmination of the toybox motif from the original Smash N64. If Smash 64 was some random low/middle class kid playing with an assortment of figurines, Smash Ultimate is the toy box that X A-12 Musk is going to have six years from now.

And what will next generation be? I don't know if EVERYONE IS HERE AGAIN is exactly sustainable with all the third party licenses, and 80 might just be the breaking point, so if in Game of the 2020s, we have Smash Dexit vs. Super Mario Pilgrimage, assuming the next big Mario lives up to the legacy of 64, Galaxy, and Odyssey (sorry Sunshine), that trend could reverse.

• I feel like FFXV being the "2016 GOTY" on GameFAQs gets brought up a lot, but it's actually kinda fraudulent since it relied on rallies to win. So yeah, FFXV was already hated back then and would have probably lost to Gen 7 Pokemon without the rallies and Gen 7 Pokemon is kinda hated as well.

• There is no way in hell the Nintendo fanbase will give the apathy vote to Persona 5 over Witcher 3 after getting blueballed so hard. After Joker got announced for Smash, there was tons of excitement, leaks and rumors that Persona 5 was coming to Switch. Then P5S got announced, which everyone assumed was Persona 5 Switch and hype went through the roof on the Switch subreddit. Then the P5S reveal trailer dropped and it was clear that Persona 5 wasn't coming to Switch and instead, the Switch was getting the musou sequel, triggering a big meltdown. But you know what game did come to Switch and delivered? Witcher 3.
• I don't think you can compare a Witcher rally over BotW with the Draven rally over Link. For one thing, Draven's not even that liked within the LoL community (leading to LoL players voting for Link), whereas the Witcher community is completely united behind Witcher 3, so I think the backfire rate might not be as bad as you'd think. BotW is liked and everything but people who like Witcher 3 REALLY like Witcher 3. Another thing to note is that GameFAQs hate Draven and Undertale, but do like Witcher 3, so a Witcher rally over BotW in the finals will be seen as more of a Bloodborne vs RE2 type deal than a Draven completely taking over the contest type of deal. And finally, BotW might not have won a contest, but "ZELDA ALWAYS WINS" is still baggage that it has to wear on this site and Link changing to a blue tunic is not fooling anyone.

I hate to burst yo's bubble a bit here, but the rally thread pinned to r/Persona wasn't the one that stated we had 30 minutes left. That one kind of fell off quickly, and the one that got pinned was bit more general.

However, it did stay pinned for quite a while, because Persona 5 was up next, and it got edited to reflect the match change. Still, I don't know how much traffic the one with the incorrect time left actually got, so it still could have influenced whether or not people clicked on the pinned one through osmosis.

Yeah, P4G would have had about 6 or 7% of the brackets itself, considering their prediction percentages the previous rounds were almost identical. RDR, GTA V, and Overwatch would have been huge casual favorites, and Board 8 represents a huge chunk of the Three Houses predictions.

Also, Bowser > Alucard in loser's bracket was also a lower sitewide percentage than Xenoblade's division win, due to all the different permutations possible for the loser's bracket, making it among the lowest prediction percentages that was a Guru cookie pick.

In many ways, Witcher 3 and CD Projekt Red has become a symbol against corporate greed and even non-Witcher fans respect them for being pro-consumer. I feel like this is partially why Reddit loves them so much, as they are constantly outraged by microtransactions.

CD Projekt Red putting Switcher 3 on a massive 32 GB cartridge, while so many other 3rd party Switch ports are either digital-only or give you physical versions that require massive day 1 downloads, speaks volume.

Yeah, I do believe in Witcher 3 as a symbol, and agree things will be trending in its favor by the time the Final arrives (tying back to yo's Living, Breathing Contest theory we discussed at length). Even so, I still think it will take a perfect storm to slay Zelda.

In other news I sure hope the people who got shoutouts this week will have enough time to give this a listen!

Yo's description of it being objectively one of the best matches of the contest while, on a personal level, hating every minute of it is exactly how I felt. I followed that match from start to finish and it was easily the low point of the contest for me, salvaged only by the final result.

Obviously I was feeling more confident at the start of the last set of matches than the end... but for the record, despite the 11% swing in Skyrim's favor over the course of that 24 hours, I still like Dark Souls tonight!

(For reasons I already touched on in the episode, but- people are taking the GotD tag more seriously so despite Pokemon being the strongest SERIES, people started abandoning it in droves... and the rise of Last of Us was from the most tuned-in voters anti-voting the leaks in the early going while the more casual voters haven't heard about them or don't care and supported it for its good reputation.)
