This might sound a little bit on the weird, batty side. But I think Odyssey might have SFFed Devil May Cry 5.

Ok, maybe not, but I do think DMC5 gets a bit of boost based on series reputation, as it's something everyone knows even if they haven't played DMC5. It might even have enough of that to easily defeat a third tier game in a third tier Nintendo series. But all that goes out the door against Mario Odyssey.

I mean, feel free to back Overwatch or Stick of Truth in a direct match and watch those games break 45% but not really get close to Tropical Freeze.

Sure, but I also wouldn't dream of taking those games over DMC5 pre-contest either. Hell, I had DMC5 until The Show convinced me to back one of my all time favorite series, so it's not like I ever disrespected DMC5 to begin with.

My thought is expecting strength out of Tropical Freeze was a mistake Some people liked it a lot, but it doesn't strike me as having that big of a following -- not here, anyway.

I've been re-soured to the series though. I wasn't crazy about the originals (though seeing DKC1 that first time was amazing), fell in love trying Returns on the Wii for like two levels, got Returns on the 3DS, and now think of it as one of my biggest disappointments of the decade.

That bias worked for me this time...sure didn't in DKC2's four-pack the contest before though.

I really liked DKCR!

Maybe playing it on 3DS helped; I've heard mixed things about the motion controls in the original version.

I played it on the 3DS, too! The gimmick levels got to be too much for me to tolerate only being able to play as Donkey Kong.

I didnt know about the FFXV rally, huh.

Now, even without taking that into account, FFXV would have to be at best #2 for 2016 behind Doom, but more likely #3 also behind Uncharted 4 right?

To add to azuarcs point, the Switch has really revived local multiplayer just by allowing you to play with one joycon each. I have played do many more games with friends and family just because of that.

3D World actually did outsell (and outreview) SSB4Wii U, so we shouldnt discount the success of the 3DS version for that one.

Also DKCTF looks that bad because Odyssey got SFFd.

Tropical Freeze was going to look like crap no matter what unless you believe Smash applied a significant amount of rSFF to Odyssey. It probably isn't "lose to Overwatch" tier but it probably isn't that much above it either.

58.5% for 2020 Bloodborne on 2015 BB

61% for Xenoblade Chroicles on 2015 XC

Based on all the results we've seen since then, does it look like those hold up? Also I'm curious about

2020 Persona 4 Golden versus 2010 Persona 4
2020 Mario Galaxy 2 & 2020 Mario Odyssey versus 2015 Mario Galaxy
2020 Witcher 3 versus 2015 Witcher 3
2020 Mass Effect 2 versus whichever ME had the most reliable number in 2015
2020 Portal 2 versus 2015 Portal 2 (or 1)
2020 Batman and Spidey versus 2015 Arkham City

Some of those will be hard to tabulate without making some assumptions about strength though.

Regardless, a P4G that's behind potentially double SFF is going to wind up a little stronger on BOTW than P4 was projected on MM in 2010.

Portal 2 is going to finish stronger relative to Galaxy 2 than it did in 2015.

I almost want to say that Persona caught a bandwagon. I really don't think something like Red Dead Redemption gets 40%+ on Ultimate, and thats assuming Xenoblade didn't get SFFd at all.

I believe Persona was semi-successfully rallied in several of its matches which probably adds some nonlinearity to it

Persona 4 and Xenoblade both could've gotten bandwagons because they were both massive underdogs to get as far as they did, and that's consistently what's caused bandwagons, even for stuff like Charizard and Magus.

Although I wonder if the weeklong break could have killed some of that momentum

Xenoblade probably caught a bit of a bandwagon by the time it reached Smash. It resisted the Nintendo SFF hammer a bit too well.

As said in the episode, that was definitely sll P4G. Not just bandwagon but also the massive rally attempts - the pin in the last 90 minutes alone gave it half a percent at least.

I just dont see how you downplay XC after yesterday. But IIRC it was a bit less than that no? I thought Dark Souls was the biggest.

I don't know if the P4 rallies really swung the match more than a percent so I wouldn't try to discount its position simply based on the rallies.
